These photos supplement the post regarding hairline shape and growth at the 3 month mark. The photos are from the day of surgery (posted with permission from the patient). The patient had a prior history of grafting into the frontotemporal recessions, which is obvious from the preoperative photos. His goals included enhancing density and refining the previous graft zone. There was no request for an altered hairline location.
My usual protocol is to discuss hairline location with the patient prior to marking the actual hairline. Once the hairline location is agreed upon by the patient, final photos are taken to document that decision. As you would expect, single hair grafts are placed in a slightly jagged fashion around the line so as to create a subtle irregularity along the actual hairline itself.
The great majority of grafts in this case were placed within the thinning hairline and old graft zones. There was no attempt to alter the shape of the original hairline. I would expect that the hairline will retain its original shape, but that a significant density boost will be realized in about 4-5 months.
