Hairline Transplant with Melvin Mayer of MHR by Alps007 (created on )Gallery | Comments

My 6 month pics. My pre-transplant pics were taken by Dr. Mayers assistant. There's only these 2 that were given to me. So I have tried my best to make the angle at which my 6 month pictures were taken to be the same as the ones pre- transplant.

I have added more 6 month pics on 27th May. My Transplant was done on November 20th.

These are the only 2 pre-transplant pics I have. Please let me know your thoughts and if these pics are helpful.

Now I did take alot of pictures of my hair and head at different angles 3 weeks post transplant. These pictures were taken during my vacation in Africa and they are stored on my dad's computers. He is technically challenged but I will try and get them of him this week. We can also use those to compare my hairline progress. For some reason left side is thicker then right side. In other words mre growth on left side and minimum growth on right side.

Alps,

Thanks for posting your pictures.

Unfortunately, the pictures are a bit blurry so it's hard to tell.

How many grafts did you receive? Do you have any more before pictures?

From what I can tell, there is some improvement, but the hairline still looks thin. At 6 months, you still have more to come, of course...so hold final judgement until at least 1 year. Typically, there isn't a LOT of new growth, but certainly there will be thicking of the existing hairs.

It was around 1100 grafts, 1076 to be exact. Thanks for your input falceros. The other pics that I will post on here will be 3 weeks post transplant. I'm assuming they will still be good for comparing the progress been made upto today.

I have added soe more pics. This time you can clearly identify the transplanted hairs. I want to know what your opinions are for 6 months worth of progress. I really would appreciate your comments and advise regardless of whether it's positive or negative.

Your ok..... you still have some growth and thickening to expect in the coming months.

You will at some point seek additional work.... I suggest you do some homework and choose a Coalition Member who will focus more on your individual needs as opposed to the business end of things.

As Pat alluded to ... Dr. Mayer is the BEST Doc at MHR...bit of a head scratcher saying that to be honest, but you could have ended up with Puig or one of the other wannabes so count yourself lucky.

Just take your time and apply some logic and proper strategy.....go on some consults with highly regarded docs just to see what your looking at.

Take Care,
J

Its been over 13 months since I had my procedure done with Dr. Mayer of MHR in San Diego and I am very dissapointed.

I was at a Norwood 2 and Dr. Mayer took a payment of a 1000 grafts which he said will be more then sufficient to provide the kind of density and thickness I desire. 13 months on, the frontal area where the grafts were placed hasn't thickended up and I decided to seek the opinion of a HT doc in England where I reside.

According to him a 1000 grafts should have been more then sufficient to thicken the frontal area. What he was able to conclude after examining my recipient area is that not more then 200 grafts have been placed which is why the recipient areas are very thin.

In other words I had paid for a 1000 grafts but only around 200 have been placed. This is totally unethical.

Dr. Mayer had been awarded by the ISHRS a few years ago but in reality he has turned out to being a CON.

I fully remember that on the day of my procedure he was attending to 4 patients which is why he was running from one patient to the next consistently. I also remember that when it came to placing the grafts in my head, he didn't spend more then 15 minutes.

I will be posting pics up soon. You'll also notice that these are old fashioned transplants. You'll notice the plugs and how artificial my hairline looks and thin too.

Sorry to hear, man, that sounds friggin wretched; even more unfortunate that it isn't *that* surprising..thankfully, you still prolly have a good deal of donor left over, and your hairloss doesn't look too bad to begin with...SO, if you select an elite HT clinic your future still looks bright in my opinion.

But, I guess this shows that even "the best of MHR" is truly damning with faint praise....

alps,

sorry to hear about your bad mhr experience. If your six month pics are indicative of your final result then 1000 fu into such a small area should have yielded a far better cosmetic improvement.
...and your doctor was similtanously working on 4 different patients.
Unbelieveable.

on the plus side your donor supply has hardly been touched and the little work that was done seems ok so really all u can do is chalk it down to experience and the next time i'm sure you'll choose a doctor who has his patients best interests at heart.

best of luck to u.

Alps,

I appreciate you coming back to give us an update on your experience. I am sorry to hear that you are disappointed.

Do you have updated pictures you can share with us? I would suggest that if your results don't look any better than they did at 6 months, then you didn't receive a high growth yield with this hair transplant.

As thanatopsis already pointed out, the good news is you should have plenty of donor hair available for subsequent hair transplants. I encourage you to spend time here and do research on this site and select a physician with a proven track record of excellent results.

On a side note, it is quite alarming that your physician was working on 4 other patients simultaneously.

Best wishes,

Falc

Jeeeez......

Just goes to show what a pack of wankers MHR can be.........

pLEASE BE CAREFUL as to what Dr you choose next time. As far as I know only the Farjo clinic in Manchester is recommended. because of the cheap dollar it may be better for you to fly to NY and see Dr. Feller.......Dont just go to any clinic. Most of them have an awful reputation in UK....

Hard to believe these doctors are allowed to get away with this, even today.

Are there coaltion doctors who work on multiple patients at the same time? I sure hope not. I remember all too well the 90's, when I would be one of about 5 or 6 patients being worked on that day, many of us at the same time, it was all about how much $$$ that butcher could make, not what kind of results that could be delivered.

Ethics and skill should be evaluated equally, as they are just as important.
