Thx for sharing. Pls document your 3 6 and 12 month results. I need to go back to my doc for pics. but I think Propecia has had a very positive impact to back of my head.

I posted this on another thread after 4 days of being on finasteride.

"I am now 4 days into taking proscar (quarters). Funny, but only us hair loss guys would notice this, but I have a single hair that is below my now receded hairline. It seems it didn't want to fall out and has resisted receding more than my other hairs. However, it has grown weak and is short and looks about ready to die. It could be my imagination, but after only 4 days, I'd swear it is becoming more visible and longer. I'll keep you informed."

Robert had informed me that it can take 4 months or longer to see results. That is true on a scale considering only cosmetically significant differences that cause a visible difference. However, I just want to keep an accurate record of what I have found and make the point that on an individual hair level I now believe that one can detect a difference almost immediatly.

It has now been 3 weeks and one day since I started Proscar. The individual hair I was referring to above is still growing. It is about .5 cm longer that when I started. It is also darker. I want to emphasize that this single hair was almost gone. It looked like a vellus hair that was finally ready to die. I could barely see it. Now it is easily visible due to its new length and darkness.

There is also something else I've noticed. This is more subjective so I'm not sure about it. My hair seems to stand up straiter. That might sound strange, but it really appears to have more stength, which makes it pop upward and away from my scalp. I have not changed shampoos or anything like that that would change its texture.

And the really good news :-). I have not noticed any sexual side effects.

A resounding ::shrug:: from me, Gorpy. It does seem like you may be spending more time looking in the mirror than me, though, and that makes me feel better. Big Grin

To tell you the truth, it does take time for Finasteride to build up in the system. Everybody is different, however, and you just may be noticing some initial effects of the medication quicker than most. Again, a resounding ::shrug::.

At any rate, at least it is good news, right?

Happy growing, buddy.

You must be excited! I also have a single hair left from the very front of my original hairline, right in the middle and it now appears to be in the center of my forehead - I shave it off every now and again.

Will you be able to check in after your HT to give us details? I'm particularly interested seeing as you are a similar case to me (age, number of grafts, pattern of hair loss etc.).

Hey Gorpy, I just realized you were the one doing business with Dr. Keene. If you don't mind, I'm going to leach onto your every post for the next few months and live vicariously! I'm getting the feeling she may be the one for me even though I live in Maryland. Your hair type and pattern really resemble mine I think so all the better for me to watch you progress (don't get creeped out on me now) I am 39 yrs old now; was your hairloss anything like mine at that age?

You seem to have a little more thickness in the middle than I did. Mine kind of thinned back all together instead of in the side recession areas like yours. I don't mind if you watch. That's what this forum is for. Glad to help.

The pain in the donar area has subsided today (day 3). So I stopped taking any pain medication. Before that it was a little sore, but not too bad. I would take a pain pill before going to bed which would eventually wear off around 2 or 3 am and wake me up. There's very little tightness. I almost don't notice any. It's more itchy than anything.

Thanks Gorp. I am trying to do some picture/net consults with some different docs. Dr. Bernstein just wrote back that he thinks 1400 now would be good and them maybe more a year later. But, I kind of want to be done as much as possible in one setting. Or maybe one bigger one now and smaller one a few years later? I don't know. I do know I need to get a prescription for that propecia stuff.. I am a little worried about the possible "limpy worm" side effects though. I have a really hot younger wife who loves sex (a lot). Maybe I'll get prescibed propecia AND viagra! Anybody know if they interact badly?

Gorpy -

I see your 2 day post-op pic. It looks good from the front view, but do you have a picture of top. I am curious how far back Dr. Keene has placed grafts. Also, do you know what kind of density (grafts/cm2) she has put? How's confidence level after the procedure?

Hi Kg, I posted a 2 day post op top view. This procedure was calculated based on 30 per Cm2, but I think that can vary a little over various parts of the head. Confidence is good. I am pleased with the results so far. Dr. Keene said I had a good amount of 3 and 4 hair follicles available that she placed on top so I should get some good coverage there.

Day 11 update. This is interesting because most of the grafted hair has not shed which gives me a good idea of what it will look like when it grows in fully later.

For those of you wondering about redness. I'm one of those guys with sensitive skin, plus I had alot of grafts put up there. So the redness is slowly fading. I think it's going to take a while for it to fully go away.

Well it's only a pink hue, doesn't look bad at all and the hair looks great. Pity it has to come out Roll Eyes

Yes, it is a bittersweet moment when the transplanted hairs begin to shed. However, look at it as progress and maybe the pill is a little easier to swallow?

At any rate, happy growing. You have a short wait until things start really popping.
