Unsightly plugs from 1977; Corrective surgery; Dr. Beehner by Mike Beehner, M.D. (created on )Gallery | Comments

This presently 60 y/o male first presented to me at the age of 45 in 1994, having 17 years earlier had two sessions of large plugs at a private doctor's office who was dabbling in hair transplants at the time.
In 1994 and 1995, I first excised the row of plugs in the left front and sutured the elipse closed. He also received 250 and 275 grafts respectively at those two visits, made up of a combination of then minigrafts and micrografts.
12 years went by and he returned to see if I could make it even better (see photo of his consult in March of 2006).
He then had two sessions a year apart of 1139 grafts (130 mfu's and 1009 FU's) and 1320 grafts (all FU's).
The "after" photos shown are from one year after these two newer surgeries. Incidentally, on the day of these photos he had a third "modern era" session of 1127 FU's and we declared his donor area finished donating transplanted hairs for this patient!

Nice work Dr. Beehner. The last picture, due to the contrast, leaves a poor impression. This can be seen in other areas to the pic. In my opinion, it detracts from the fine work.

It's wonderful to see another one of the old guard getting their lives back. CONGRATULATIONS!

Uncjim,
The last photo admittedly is not a great looking result, as it reflects a couple of what were then very small sessions using tiny numbers of micrografts and a lot of minigrafts, which were the grafts being used back when I did his initial two surgeries.
I thought it was important to at least show what he looked like at that point in time with the primitive tools I had to work with then. The point of showing that photo was to show the improvement that occurred with the two larger and more recent corrective surgeries, which featured almost entirely the use of FU grafts.
