Heres a link to my other post explaining more about what I'm trying to do. I started Propecia 1 month before I started Rogaine Foam. More details.. Propecia Jan11th(Start Date), Rogaine Foam February 13th(Start Date) http://hair-restoration-info.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/6566060861/m/9021094953 I honestly hope that my research can help you all in your decision whether or not to use the medication, if it's worth to use it, or if it definitely works.( MY PERSONAL REASON FOR DOING THIS IS THAT I WANT TO SEE IF IT WORKS FOR MYSELF. Thank You all and I hope that this may help some young guys going through the same hard times that I am. (MY HAIRLOSS PATTERN is in the NW5-NW7 pattern as you can see from my first picture, with my hair shorter than that you can plainly see the horseshoe) *JULY 6 MONTH PROPECIA UPDATE* I feel like the combination is DEFINITELY working, im so glad to finally be on 6months propecia, now the medicine is TECHNICALLY suppose to be working now(atleast slowing) and I feel like my hairline shed from rogaine is over and it seems the hairs are growing back. I have to admit that my hair being long again it has made me feel so much better. Im completely over my hairloss depression(and having a life again, seeing girls a lot again)and my life has made a full rebound. i can't say how id feel if i still had my head shaved but thank god i have curly hair as it appears thicker than it is. either way i absoloutely think the medications are working. *** for the people who think im not even thinning, view my first 10 pictures and try to tell me how u can't see any thinning. anyway COMMENTS appreciated!! *** 7 month update Im actually having a lot of shedding right now, not sure if the medication is wearing off or nothing but still no side effects and it seems only beneficial things are happening so why not continue what ive started... im excited for 9 month now! |

Jupiter,
I really appreciate that you are taking the time to document your progress with Propecia and Rogaine. As you know, 2 months is way too early to see a difference, but give it some time and hopefully you will restore some hair. Keep us posted. Give yourself about 6-10 months to start seeing results. 12 months should give you a good picture of the treatment effects.

I've been using Rogaine on my crown for 5 months, the other night my barber says "You know, I'm noticing small downy hairs on your crown, and some of the hair there is getting long and I was thinking of even cutting it", now this is on a crown that was largely bald before. I held a mirror and looked for myself, the results are barely visible but in the right light, using two mirrors, I noticed that the crown now does have a soft layer of very fine hair. It barely looks any different, but the fact is it has to be helping cause I'm thinking it looks different (a picture would likely show no difference at this stage) and there is more coverage than before
But, after 5 months of once a day usage (1 ml a day, solution) I'm seeing some positive results. |

You are way ahead of the curve if you are planning a HT at 19 with hair like that. Dont make any plans just yet. But using Rogaine and keeping track of hair loss, in this respect, staying ahead of the curve is very smart. I would think you are about as good a candidate as there can be for Rogaine, and there are some real encouraging threads on people with real noticable regrowth from Rogaine. I'm peronally using it to first make sure I dont lose any more hair, then hopefully get some of it back |

Yeah I've seen a couple threads on here, actually to be honest exactly 3, and 2 of them come from a paid consultant and the other from someone who doesn't post here anymore and whos hair went from balding to no balding at all(which doesn't pan out to me that well) not trying to be negative just doesn't seem too real too me, which is why im doing my own i guess, so i can judge if putting that foam in my hair twice a day and taking a pill everyday is worth it at all. ~im getting a hair transplant in 2012 when im 25~ |

Jupiter,
Remember the paid consultants (Janna in this case) doesn't get paid to promote Propecia or Rogaine. In fact, many patients have been turned away from surgery (loss of income) and told to try medication first. However, doing this on your own is a great idea. I hope you also have the same level of success but as I pointed out on the other threads, those results are not typical, though they are possible. Keep us posted my friend! Best of luck; can definitely see the losses beginning to assault your crown. Catching it early, though, and there is a good shot that the 1-2 punch of fin-minox can at the very least halt further damage for quite a few years.

Falc, Oh yeah dude, I was definitely not insulting Janna whatsoever , her posts have been educational to say the very least, and I had PM'd her awhile back and we talked, she seems to be a nice woman. Was just saying thats where it was coming from(a hair transplant clinic), and the other guys results are just absolutely perfect was all. Sorry for coming off like a dick if I did. ~im getting a hair transplant in 2012 when im 25~ |

I first started getting other people commenting about my thinness at 20 or so as well; but generally it was about age 25 before everyone started noticing it. I had enjoyed a very high success rate with the ladies as well.
But, I think some Toppik, along with Rogaine and Propecia, could get you another 10 years. Just act like you don't give a damn and other people will see your confidence instead of your hairloss. My neighbor is a NW 7, in great shape with a great job. The last thing he thinks about is his hair. He shaves it every day and I admire him for it. His wife is hot too. So, most of it is attitude. Easy for me to say it b/c it bothered the crap out of me. I keep telling my boys that hair isn't important, yada yada yada, because I want to prepare them for the mpb they'll probably face as well. 300 'mini' grapfts by Latham's Hair Clinic - 1991 (Removed 50 plugs by Cooley 3/08.) 2750 FU 3/20/08 by Dr. Cooley Current regimen: 1.25 mg Proscar M-W-F Rogaine 5% Foam - once daily AndroGel - once daily Lipitor - 5 mg every other day Weightlifting - 2x per week Jogging - 3x per week |

Jupiter,
No offense taken. I think it's the best idea given your age to try out the meds first. For you to document your progress will benefit not only you but for many others. Thanks. Jupiter,
I'm not surprised to hear that you haven't experienced any new hair growth at only 4 months. As I've stated before, Propecia and Rogaine are typically good at maintaining existing hair, and though it's possible to be a good responder like some of the patients Janna posted, I would consider significant amounts of hair regrowth the exception rather than the rule. I look forward to your next update. Cheers, Falc To learn about how I restored my hair, read my hair restoration story with pictures. See also my hair loss weblog. Jupiter,
With the meds, it's very important to keep in mind that the effects are subtle. That is why clear progressive documentation is important. You will not be able to see much of a difference until at least a year. I have seen studies done where there is a difference up to two years. Skipping a month or two of picture documentation may not be necessary in the big scheme things, however, it is important to at least report what you are experiencing at each month. Even though the effects of meds may be different for each individual, the more info given about effects at different months is valuable. The mere fact that you express there is not much of a change at month 4 may be reassuring for another who have the same type of effect as you. Again, I commend you for keeping a detailed log. Try not to get discouraged. It's a long haul of staying on the meds. The patient I posted in the thread I started (the first main patient) also stopped taking the meds as he felt the meds were not working for three months. He had to see the before and after pictures himself to notice the changes. As I stated above, it's a very subtle effect for most people. At this stage, the two meds seem to be the only viable non surgical means of combatting MPB. So any retention of native hairs is a huge plus let alone regrowth of hairs. Best of luck and keep up the good work. I'm employed as the lead medical tech and surgical manager for the Shapiro Medical Group. Feel free to ask me any questions. |
