Just recently was put on testosterone therapy. (200mg injections 1 per week). I am almost 6 weeks post op HT. Does anyone think I should up my dosage of propecia to drop the chances of it interfering with my new growth? I just started rogaine as well. Thanks for your input in advance.....Otto

what are your testosterone levels (free, DHT, etc)?
Why are you on injections?

200 mg testosterone per week is what beginning bodybuilders take. I cant believe a doctor whould prescribe you something like that. Those levels are way too high. Propecia lets the testosterone work less, less muscle gains,...
I guess you are taking them for these purposes?
Testosterone converts to DHT and you know what that means, upping your propecia-dosage wont help that much. I was thinking about taking steroids too some time ago, till i educated myself and found out what it can do to you. ( roid rage, testicles shrink, hair falls out, severe acne, impotence, do i need to go on? )
Luckily for you testosterone is the most 'healthy' steroid, i also gets produced by the human body but not in those dosages.
I can only advice you not to take it or reconsider your choice on steroid, deca and d-bol and others dont convert to DHT but have other side-effects than hairloss. If you take deca, dont take propecia because this mix makes your hair fall out.

Greetz.

that reminds me of the song: "I know an old lady who swallowed a fly...she swallowed a spider to catch the fly...I guess she'll die."

This game will never end as you will keep upping your doses of everything. My opinion is you should not be taking testosterone injections unless you have a serious medical need. If you have a serious medical need, then hair loss is likely the least of your problems.

Hey Belgiumguy, by no means is my therapy for recreational use. So as far as the whole muscle gains thing I could care less! I would however like to have a normal sex drive and not ever have any issues getting a hard on! My Doc prescribed the injection because of my low test levels.. My test level score was 117, and it should be I believe between 227 and 800. I have lost quite a bit of weight the last year, I also have no energy or strength. (Hypogandism) The test gel gave me a rash so this was my last resort. I dont think my doc would prescribe me this if he thought I was going to abuse it.. One thing though he does not know i had an HT.., and that is why I asked the question about taking the extra dose of propecia.. I also think im gonna be sick if I just blew $6500 on my HT and I just F'd everything up by taking the meds my doc prescribed.. I guess now my question is, is it too late..I am about 6 weeks post op and been on my test therapy for the last 2 weeks did I screw everything up? or if I quit going to the doc to get my injections will everything be alright? or if I maybe go in every other week would that be alright? And just so you know I am the farthest thing away from wanting to be a wanna be bodybuilder,,and if someone recommends that i quit my therapy what should I say to my Doc on why I no longer want the meds?

Otto,

I think you have a medical conflict going on here, Propecia WILL interupt the effects of Testosterone suppliments, I have a very hard time believing a Doctor prescribes both at the same time, I am around the gym quite often myself, I would get a better medical opinion on this. Propecia directly kills T-cycles and the effectiveness.

If you chose Testosterone injections you vote against keeping most of your hair, but if you have to have them (understandably so) you may (in time)have a sparsly transplanted head of hair, but feel better.

IMO, you are offsetting each drug and wasting $$$$.

All the best with your choices !

My doc told me to stop taking propecia, once i started the test therapy but my ht doc said do not stop taking propecia... and this is kind of funny as well are well known doc that we have learned to love and respect Dr.Hasson has finally replied to my concerns and said there would be no conflict between the 2 drugs.. Also Dr Ziering said the same thing.... just wanted to get a few different opinions. So now I am really confused.. Are these docs now just trying to make a buck? or are we answering posts based on what we think the outcome may be? and actually just giving an opinion.. The only reason I posted this quetion is because at the time the 3 docs I tried to contact had not yet replied. Still waiting for 1 more..And if any one would like to see the replies i did get from these docs leave your addy.

otto,

You made the right call if you are coming back at 117.

I have my lab results for Testosterone on 4/2/02.

The nominal range is 241-827, measured in nanograms per deciliter.

I had a 718 that day. I will take another lab test shortly for tesosterone and post it here. I've been on 1/4 Proscar a day, give or take, for about 17 months now.

Not sure how much it affects things now. Initially, I had a spike in libido. I'd say my libido is still very high, but I haven't been lifting enough recently or exercising in general, which might nullify and increase in testosterone via Proscar use for me. I guess we'll see.

Just my experiences and what's coming up. After about a month of taking it easy after HT #2, I plan to hit the weight pile hard and take more measurements for comparison sake.

NW:

I recently got a reading of 1115 ng/dL. Compare that to the 718 I had before 1/4 Proscar a day, but take into account that testosterone levels do fluctuate daily.

Explains the "more efficient" workouts. I gotta hit it hard in the new year. Been a slacker recently. Gonna heal up after HT #2 and push the weight pile and see where I can go with this.

I also just started Test therapy and I had a HT. My Endocrinist suggested that I start taking Propecia again as I had gone from 1mg a day then 1/2 mg day for 6 months and I had been off Propecia for almost a year and my hair was fine. 200 mg a week is alot and will cause your levels to go very high, my levels were around 180 and six days after a shot ( 200mg) they were at 1187. I had my 2nd shot today ( 3 weeks later) and I had another blood test to check my levels, you should do the same. 1mg a day seems fine for 200 mg every 2-3 weeks.

Just an FYI for the guy who doesn't think Dbol converts to DHT, that is not correct and it will cause hairloss
