What's the dosage and how often do you guys take the Proscar? After my HT, the doctor put me on Proscar. He had me cut it into 4 pieces and take 1 piece every other day. He said I'd only need to take it 3 times a week so I have been taking it every MWF.

Is this enough? I am not sure whether my hair loss process has halted or not due to the dosage. I think the thinning area is getting worse.

I have been thinking of using Rogaine to boost the crown area since it was not grafted as densed as the frontal area. I don't plan to use Rogaine forever, however. My ultimate goal is to have a 2nd HT to concentrate on the density and the crown area. Anyway, will Proscar be strong enough to allow the thickened hair in the crown area stay that way?

4 months post-op and I'm still wearing a cap. This is getting a bit depressing.

Thanks for the help.

THe FDA package insert on Propecia for MPB is 1mg per day. SOme say every other day is sufficient but I dont think studies have been done with this regiment. I personally have been on Propecia 1mg daily for 6 years. Every 9 months or so I'll take 4-6 weeks off to allow me system not to adapt and it has worked for 6 years. I also have been on Rogain extra strength for 5 years. I'm a great believer in the combo and that it almost stops hair loss progression. Some actually have regrowth, but in my case it just stopped the progression where it was-- which has been awesome for me because without this combo I would be a lot thinner. I've also had 6 HT over the past 15 years.
So I would recommend getting on Rogain extra strength and it's your decision to take Propecia daily or every other day.
One side note, I've done research on testosterone levels/production and DHT. What I found is that a male testosterone peaks in sleeping hours and DHT is high during sleeping hours. Even though Propecia works for 24 hours, I take mine at night before bed to be on the safe side.

4 months is too early to really judge the results of Proscar... keep with it and see where you are in another 6 months. Try taking some pics now, that you can compare yourself with later (rather than relying on memory).

If you still seem to be losing hair, discuss your concerns with your doctor. He may increase your dosage to every day, or have some other suggestions.

Keep your fingers crossed and hope you respond well...

Sadboy, have you looked into concealers? I wear a "high-and-tight" and keep my hair up top at about 1 inch or so. a combination of Couvre' and Toppik works wonders for this length

Smoothy,
The question of when to take your daily dose of Finasteride is an interesting one. Could you be more specific on your research about DHT production peaks? Have there been any studies regarding this & where can we find the results?

socialdrinker, in fact, I just bought some last week. They should be arriving this week. I will give them a try! I heard it takes some skills to apply these.

Will the cost of HT ever drop? Paying over 10K is kind of out of reach for most people.

sadboy17, i have NO idea if the cost will ever drop. I had been saving for months as a college student (which definitely isnt easy) when I found out about the essay contest, and was EXTREMELY fortunate enough to become the first winner. Something you should look into if money is a factor for you.
