I went down to New York and consulted with doctor Dorin on Tuesday. I was and am very impressed with how the consultation went compared with some others I have done in the past decade (i have had maybe 3 over 8 years and was oversold every time).I was also impressed with some of the photos I have seen of his work on this site. A little about myself...I am 35 years old and have been slowly balding since about 19-20 or thereabouts. I am now a norwood 5 heading towards a 6. I had a small transplant done when I was 25 which was a waste of money and to boot (maybe 400~500?), they put the scar way too low. The hairs which were moved were not too many, so it is not a dramtic problem.
I have been lurking on this website for three years or so and I have been researching for maybe five or so. I have always known that I would be doing another hair transplant, but I was sort of waiting for the technology to improve (and using propecia) to ward of further hair loss.
The good news is that the propecia has either stopped the hair loss or really slowed it down best I can tell (last two years).
The plan is to do maybe (2500~2700) this coming Jan. The bad news is that my donor area is not as dense as I assumed it would be (my hair is thick on the sides, thought it was at any rate). Dr Dorin was very upfront about not being able to do the crown and setting up a plan where we would do a session this Jan, and procedd with another one the followig Jan. of about 1500 +/-, saving the rest of the donor area for further progression.
It is a funny thing, the longer I have been balding, the more accepting one is of things like a 2.5" dia. bald spot at the back of my head which I can not see. I had pictures taken at the appointment and it is a funny thing how much more bald one looks under flourescent light as opposed to indirect incandescent light.
Oh well, i am looking foward to a spring of recovery. I will spend this time getting my sailboat in top form for racing this summer. I am aslo going to finish up my graduate degree (need two classes for about 4 years now, hehe), so I guess I have an exciting spring coming up.
