Hi, I am a long time lurker, first time poster. I'd just like to start by saying this is a great site and has given me a great deal of information.

Ok, I am 22 years old and have been losing my hair since I was about 18..it's been falling out steadly but fairly slowly since then. I've been on Proscar for around 2 years and Minoxidal for around 1 year. I also take MSM(3000mg), multivits,Zinc(30mg) and use Nizarol 3 times per week.

Firstly, over the last 6 months or so I have had a terrible itch on my head, its really red in patches around my crown area. Really bad that I am itching it so much it sometimes bleeds, and this is surely causing more hair to fall out. I stopped using nizoral for a while to see if it was this was the cause but it has still been doing it. Its so bad I just want to shave my hair off! Do you think it could be the Minoxidil? for the first 3 months I bought Rogaine and it seemed fine then, but I switched to Kirklands because its ALOT cheaper. I am thinking this is the case. Has anyone else had the problem and been able to switch to a cheap alternitive? Ive heard it may be the alcohol used to absorb the minoxidil that can cause irritation?

Secondaly, I have no idea if ANY of these drugs I am using are actually working! I am still losing my hair, I know that for a fact, but maybe its just slowing it down? I don't want to stop using them incase it causing more hair to fall out. I think I am destind to go bald! my dad is fully bald and my brother is 26 and also balding. not good!

Does anyone have any sound advice for me? Anything would be grealty appreciated! Is there anytihng else I should be taking or doing? I'll add some pictures tomorrow just so you can see to what extent I am at.

Thanks for reading if you got this Far!

number2,

Losing your hair that young sucks! From the sounds of it, you've been doing your homework and have taken steps help keep what you have.

I do not use Minoxidil but have heard of those who seem to have some sort of irritation with it. If I were you, I'd go see a good dermatologist immediately. May be Minox.........may be something else that you need to deal with ASAP.........who knows??

Have you documented your results with Finasteride? If you're still losing hair it may not be working for you, but maybe it is. It's tough to say. If you quit taking it you'll lose everything you've kept since being on it.

If I were in your situation I'd seek professional advice of a dermatologist. Good luck to you.

number2, My minoxidile experience was not that much severe as yours but I got pimples and lot of itching. Once I stopped it, both are gone. It happened to me twice. So it is definitely minoxidile. But these side effects happened within one month of starting its usage. You are having trouble from last 6 months. What about the first 6 months. You did not have any problem in first 6 months?

Hi, Thanks for both of your replys. I have a very skecky memory but I believe whilst I was taking Rogaine there was very little itching, then after 3 months I went for the kirkland solution. After around 2-3 months or so I started getting a really sore scalp, going really read in patches and it's got progressivly worse. I think your are correct saying it is this. Should I just stop using Minox completly? Or opt for another type?

Thanks agian for yuor replys,

sorry this is very rushed as I am late for work!

number2, I stopped minoxidile because finasteride was working very well for me. I had HT and getting hair. So, even if I am not on minoxidile I don't loose much. But your case is different. I don't suggest you to stop minoxidile. You may shift to minoxidile 2%. But whatever, it would be better to go to a dermatologist first to know what is the cause of your itching.
