I'm eighteen and have been experiencing hairloss for about a year. Honestly I don't think that there could be a worse time in your life.
I saw my doc but was never given a reason for my hair loss. Nothing was ever really explained to me and the only thing I was really offered was counselling. Did you get given reasons? |

Amelia,
Given that your public profile says you are female, I will address this from a female hair loss perspective. Unfortunately, most general practitioner physicians are not hair loss specialists and probably won't be able to diagnose the cause of your hair loss. But determing the cause is the most important step before a treatment can be recommended. Though androgenetic alopecia (male and female pattern genetic hair loss) is the most common reason men and women start to bald, there are a number of other conditions that cause other types of hair loss. Other hair loss conditions include diffiuse alopecia (characterized by diffuse hair thinning all over the scalp or affected area depending on the cause) of which the most common type is telogen effluvium, alopecia arreata (characterized by circular patches of hair loss in random areas of the scalp and sometimes body), traction alopecia (a loss of hair, typically in the hairline that is caused by excessive hair pulling or styling). Seeing a dermatologist or hair restoration physician will help you diagnose your hair loss condition and recommend an appropriate treatment. I hope this helps get you started.
