It has been my impression that mini/micro grafts are old styly plugs, but dissected to be smaller. Therefore, the results aren't as natural as FU grafting, which are inividual follicles, not groups of them.

WHERE AM I GOING WRONG?

Jim,
Mini/micro grafting is performed via strip just like FU grafting however that is the end of the similarities. The grafts are unnatural in design because they are cut as the doctor sees fit and without microscopic magnification. Results like I had from my mini grafts looked horrible because it was done very poorly. I'm not advocating mini/micro grafting in the least bit because it was a terrible waste of tissue and grafts due to much higher transection rates but for it's day it was excellent in the right hands. With plugs,(4mm punch grafts), it was a journey with no end as no one I have ever seen has had anything near a natural appearance from these.

Joe,
Yes..got it. What was done along my left hairline in the late 1980's by Feinberg (my second HT doc)was pretty much what you are describing, except strip wasn't around at that time. He took the plugs and cut them into smaller units, trimmed them and used those for the hairline. The result was a line that was less than ideal and looked too perfect, but far better than the right hairline, which was very pluggy.

I just took this opportunity to check out your story.

You give an accurate and very practical account of the issues facing balding men and your results are very encouraging. Thanks for sharing.

I wish I had all fu. One fu per hole. In ignorance I had coupled fu's done. Basically a doctor got 1500+- from my strip; he doubled them up giving me only 800 grafts. They were cut and trimmed but can be seen very close up. Also like a plug they don't lighted up in the sun as compared to the other single fu's. They look like a tiny plug. They were done for density ? I had 1350 graft to camo them and they still can be seen. I don't believe any fu procedure can hide plugs or m/m. Did anyone have a good camo job on their m/m ? In hairmill theory this type of graft give better shingling but you can't wear your hair short. An ht looks most natural with hairs one mill apart. I had to get hairs all around the cuoupled fu's hoping to hide them. I am going to Dr. Jones again for fue to either remove them or hide them some more. I have had 1800 coupled fu grafts total for a nw 5. It would have been 3200 tru fu's if the Dr. did all fu. Couple fu's take more hair to give a natural look. Arfy was right. Finad a Dr. who puts on fu in one hole.

EastCoast,
Poor work can be hidden along the hariline. Here is a comparison of my left hairline before and after my first surgery with Dr.Wong. The results of the second surgery should be even more compelling (if not, I'm taking a leap off a tall building). Big Grin
