Hey everyone, this is my first post. I'd like to share my comments here and hope some of you guys/gals have some advice or responses for me!
I'm 28, and have seemed to notice some receding as of late. I have noticed this since the age of 25, but it was so minor I never really paid any attention. Last week, I had long hair, almost down to my eyebrows. All was good. Then I cut my own hair short (mistakingly) and I noticed that my hairline is no longer a straight line, that it's sort of a point in the centre of my forehead. Then it recedes about 1/2 inch, and is a solid, straight line all the way back to where the recession currently stops. At the corners of my forehead, it has receded sideways (towards my ears) but not up and towards the top of my head. So I would say, within 3 years, it has receded under an inch (but HAS receded nonetheless.) I have a full head of hair everywhere else, with absolutely no signs of thinning or balding, just my hairline, which is also appearing to be thinner than it used to be. I would estimate that if I continued to recede at this rate, I would probably go bald sometime waaaay down the road, but you never know. Has anyone experienced this currently or when you were under 30? Could this be just a natural recession or am I in for the worst? Guys at work tell me it's normal to recede at the sides of the forehead and that I'm not appearing to bald, but I'm thinking otherwise. Any help/feedback would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks Rob |

Some recession is considered normal and is a "mature hairline". I would not panic about it. Just keep an eye on things, and maybe take some photos for reference. See a doctor and get a prescription for Propecia, if you get concerned about losing more hair.
Getting a transplant to touch up minor recession in the hairline is a big mistake, in my opinion. It can look good at first, but really cause serious problems later on, as you continue to age or lose hair. For one thing, I think it can look strange on an older guy... Also, you've "drawn a line in the sand" with transplanted hair, that you might not be able to fulfill with further grafts. So you might end up with the transplanted hairline of a teenager, but with a bald spot, for example. |
