After much deliberation, voting, and nail-biting we were proud to announce a few months ago that the December installment of the "Win a Free Hair Transplant Essay Contest" was won by the forum member "Rgott".
Dr. Scott Alexander has generously extended his skilled expertise, time, and resources to the contest. Dr. Alexander offers highly-refined dense-packed follicular unit hair transplant surgery in Phoenix, Arizona. Due to extenuating circumstances, the actual procedure date had to be delayed for a few months. The procedure will take place in sunny Arizona on May 4th. For those that didn't catch Rgott's compelling essay, it was actually written by his wife Tammi-Jo for her husband, Robert. She wanted to give her husband, Robert, the very special Christmas present of hair. I had the opportunity to speak to both of them after the final decision was made by voting forum members. The first time I had called that evening, she had still not even told him about it yet! I told her the good news and asked that she have him call me back. In a few minutes I got to speak to a very happy Robert. Robert had been considering a hair transplant for a while and had even gone to a consultation a few years ago. However, his dedication to his family and their needs and wants had always stopped him from pursuing something like this for himself. That was when Tammi-Jo sprung into action. She would sneak away and do research on the internet and had come across these forums and this contest. She was as active as she could be considering that she, luckily, still has all of her own naturally-growing hair. Thanks to Dr. Scott Alexander, Robert will no longer have to hide under a baseball cap when he is spending time with his family. Thank you, Dr. Alexander, for giving this family man the very blessed gift of hair. Below are Rgott's submitted essay and pictures: Essay: "Hello, I am writing on my husband's behalf to enter him into a "Win a Free Hair Transplant". I don't have a long, sad story but I do know how hairloss for men can really effect you emotionally. My husband and I met 15 years ago (He was 16 and I 14)..We were teenage sweethearts. He was a confident, outgoing and fun person. That is what attracted me to him. Not his looks but his personality and his generosity. Over the years I have noticed his hair loss. He being so humble wouldn't show his dissapointment in front of me. Over the past few years I would catch him in the bathroom with a hand mirror checking out the top of his head, going out and buying OTC medications and mostly now wearing baseball caps. I can see he is now being affected emotionally and physically and socially by his hair loss. He is a young man (35)with a heart of gold. A loving father to our two boys and a wonderful hardworker and great provider for our family. He has always put myself and the boys first. Never spends money on himself or treats himself to anything. We are a young family struggling with bills, mortgages, childcare, etc. and just don't have the extra cash flow to direct to "cosmetically" enhancing his appearance. We have talked about hair transplants and he is all for it but he states if we had the extra money it should be used towards bills, mortgage payments, childcare and college savings for our two boys. So you can see he is a proud person and thinks of our families well being first. I would love to be able to enter him into this sweepstakes and be able to give him the best Christmas present that he deserves. I would love for you to recommend my husband for this transplant." -Robert ------------------------------ Check out the results of my surgical hair restoration performed by Dr. Jerry Cooley by visiting my Hair Loss Weblog |

Congratulations again to Robert and his wife,
And thanks again to Dr. Alexander for donating he and his staffs talents to restore Robert's hair for free. For those who are not familiar, last year we had an ongoing essay contest in which potential patients wrote essays online about how hair loss affected them and why they wanted a hair transplant. Then members of this community replied to vote in favor of the essay/contestant of their choice. Thanks to the generousity of several surgeons, including Dr. Cooley, Dr. Charles, Dr. Goertz, Dr. Alexander and Dr. True and Dr. Dorin five patients were given free hair transplants. I hope that Robert will return to this forum to share his surgical experience first hand this coming week. Well we are back from Phoenix. Wow was it beautiful out there. I will try to give the best description as possible and send a post op picture as well.
Tuesday: Pre-op visit. Met with Dr. Alexander at his office right from the airport. His office was like stepping into another world, which I found out later that his wife decorated it. We began by meeting in his office and going over what to expect the next day and looking over some of his clients pictures. It was getting late and we have not checked in yet to our hotel. Dr. Alexander gave me and my wife a ride back to our hotel along with some suggestions on where to eat for dinner and gave my wife some suggestions on where to shop for tomorrow. Wednesday: Day of Procedure. I couldn't sleep well. I guess it was the anxiety of the day of surgery. We arrived at his office at around 7:30 AM and was greeted by some friendly faces, Dr. Alexander's technicians, Ramona, Sabrina and Karina. Everyone was so welcoming. Dr. Alexander began marking my head and taking some pictures. We moved to the procedure room equipped with a tv and direct movies for watching. Dr. began to prep the donor area. Once the donor area was removed, the three technicians began to seperate each follicle while he bagan to make the incisions with special razor. This was a unique razor/blade that he used. Not too many physicians use this kind, I guess it was this new type of technology. That lasted about 2.5 hours. We broke for lunch. After lunch, the implantations began. One by one, each technician implanted (2600). This lasted for about another 4.5 to 5 hours until the end. We had some laughs during this time and watched a few sports games. Everyone was so kind. Dr. Alexander gave me post op instructions before leaving his office and giving us a ride back to our hotel. All in all I couldn't feel a thing because of the numbness to my head...which is a good thing. Sleeping that night was difficult. I couldn't get to comfortable. Too busy trying to keep my head elevated to a certain degree. I took a few pain killers and went to bed. Next morning I woke up feeling sick. Headed back to Dr. Alexander's office. He gave me a naseau pill and I Felt better within a half hour. Me and my wife rented a car and did some sightseeing, upon the suggestion of the Dr. It was so amazing in Arizona and what weather !!! 90 degrees. We said our goodbyes and thank yous.... I cannot say enough about Dr. Alexander and his professional staff. What a great group of down to earth people. I am so very thankful for this gift he has given to me. I will be posting pictures for you to see as progression starts. AGAIN, THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!! Rob Gott |

Rob,
Let me the first to congratulate you and welcome you to the real "hair club" for men! Since I had my first hair transplant over 7 years ago hundreds of hair loss sufferers have followed since in restoring their hair and then moving on with their lives. Of course of few of us have stuck around and become "hair geeks" and mentored other newbies. I hope you join this club too. So in the words of a true hair geek - welcome to the club and where are those photos? Hey Rob,
Well it certainly does not surprise me that you received the "red carpet" treatment from Dr. Alexander. He is very sincere in his care of his patients and his actions and that of his staff really reflect it. I have often said, "as the doctor goes, so does the staff". That can be good or bad as we all know! Dr. A is also very meticulous in 'everything" he does from A to Z which I'm sure was evident to to you and your wife. His hairline design is very natural and the "blades" you referred to are probably his own improvised to accomodate the most least invasive recipient site as possible. This should result in quicker healing, less swelling, and ultimately less trauma. So yeah Rob, congrats to you, and very sorry to hear of the loss of your father. That can be really tough but man you seem to be always thinking of others first, something I have a tremendous amount of respect for. Get some rest my friend and let us all know how things turn out. Can't wait to see the pics. Oh, make sure that dear wife of yours gets some needed rest too! Best wishes to you and your family Rob.
