I recently had an over the phone consultation with a physician and while he said that he could definitley help out my hairline, he told me not to do anything to the crown area right now because I hadn't lost enough hair. Now I understand this to some degree because although I am on Finasteride I could still lose more hair around the crown, but couldn't I just get those spots filled in later? I was just thinking that if I had him spread the grafts out enough in the thin area now it won't look that bad if I lose more. I'm not going to have super dense packing in the spot so that I end up with an island. So I guess what I'm asking is this. Is that the only reason that some doctors recommend holding off on the crown area? I mean how long do I have to wait? Until it's completely noticeable that I'm losing my hair? The whole reason for the transplant is to avoid that isn't it? Anyway, thanks in advance for any replies. I've attached some pictures.
That first picture is a view from the front of my head. Couldn't figure out how to post several attachements. Here's the crown view from the back.

How old are you? How long have you been on Propecia?
Guys who have frontal hair loss only have an easier path than guys with crown hair loss, or both front and crown. Do you realize that you could use up your entire donor supply just on your crown? The crown can take a lot of grafts, so you have to approach it with some planning.
You seem to be a borderline patient, in my opinion I recommend that you hold off and do not get any surgery in the near future. You are not bald enough yet in my opinion.

Actually no it's not. If your whole motivation is to look like you don't have any hair loss whatsoever, then I think you have unrealistic expectations about what a hair transplant can accomplish.
Do yourself a favor, make sure you understand hair transplants inside and out before you decide you want one.
I agree with arfy on this one...I would stay on finasteride, also consider starting Rogaine on the crown to try to stablilize your hairloss which does not seem bad at this point. Consider giving the meds about 1 year to stabilize your hairloss. In the meantime learn as much as possible about options (surgical/non-surgical).
About the crown, it tends to be a "black hole" for consuming your precious donor supply. If in the future you do chose hair restoration surgery, definitely concentrate on the front before anything else.
I was going to ask this same question! This site is great. I will have to upload a few pics when I get home for advise.
My crown bugs me too! I always wondered why the Drs dismiss it so quickly. However , I am 46 I have been on propecia for a year and I have thinner hair than Dorian and a slightly bigger thin spot.
I have a LOT of good donar hair. The sales guy told me to put 3hair grafts in the crown, with the singles in front working back into doubles and triples.???
ANy advise?
