Read a few posts that HT is not really recommended by surgeons for women? Any women who have had successful HT?
What abt shock loss ?? Has it been distressful

I would not necessarily agree to a generalized statement that HT is not recommended for women. As I and others have posted previously, there are other factors to consider which need to be addressed with a proper medical exam and consultation. We do have a list of referral patients that you can contact directly if you do not get feamle replies here. PLease send a private email. Women do have successful transplants assumning the medical issues have been investigated and resolved.

Hi Candyfloss. I'm 48 and lost most of my hair over the past year...it is a shock isn't it. I bought a wig but always felt like a phony. I am taking spironolactone which I believe has not been approved by the FDA. It is approved in Canada so I consider myself quite fortunate. Do you have a diagnosis with respect to your hair loss? There are many drugs you might want to consider, but if you have not been diagnosed I would urge you to see a dermatologist; I believe these drugs are tailored to different conditions. I was relieved to receive oral medication because I didn't have much much faith in the topical treatments. I'd really like to hear more of your story. Good luck. Stay strong.

I agree with Dr. Mejia. I don't think it's fair to generalize with statements like "hair transplants are not for women". There is however, some additional testing that women may have to undergo to determine whether or not the hair loss condition is genetic. If hair loss is found to be related to some kind of medical condition, hair transplantation may not be the best option. The good news is, in cases like this, that treating the medical condition typically reverses female balding. However, if female hair loss is found to be genetic, hair transplantation may very well be a viable option under similar conditions as men.

Many of our Coalition hair restoration surgeons have performed hair transplant surgery on women with much success. I recommend consulting with some of them to determine whether or not hair transplantation is right for you.
