Anybody have opinions on this? I was wondering about the quality of the donor scar after the stitches or sutures were removed. I am leaning towards sutures because my projected doctor lives more than a 1000 miles away. Please reply with your experiences. Thanks.

Some docs are indifferent but the one's who have an opinion prefer staples. Most have dissolvable sutures underneath. Personally I've had sutures and have compared others who have had both. It seems like staples have a better/finer/thinner scar than sutures. Sutures might allow for more "stretch" and creating a wider scar. Plastic surgeons use staples for scalp surgeries such as face lifts, etc.
If I had a choice, I would go with staples-- plus it is easier for you to remove yourself-- make sure you have some numbing cream before removal.

I had a HT in May. My surgeon used staples. My home was 2000 miles away and I did not know how I'd get these out. My surgeon gave me a removal device and I called my local doctor. He did not know what to expect, but was pleasantly surprised how easily they popped out.

BTW, I think sutures are more comfortable. But staples a pain, but come out after only 10 days.

Smoothy,
I agree that staples seem to give better results, and I'm extremely happy with my 2nd scar (had sutures on the 1st one and it is much more visible). However, you might want to read my "83 staples removal" experience in the photos section: not very nice at all and I would definitely recommend to have someone "experienced" do it for you.

mapman,
Lucky you if your staples popped out easily! Mine certainly didn't. I also had to keep them for 14 days (instead of the usual 10) due to some scalp laxity & previous scar problems.
