Good afternoon everyone, I have taken the first steps to reduce the hair loss I currently have started on Propecia. Im just curious to know as to when the initial shedding starts, if there is any. I've been on propecia for about a week now. Also based on experience, if anyone can tell me as to when the full affect of propecia will start to take place. My doctor said between 2-4 months, while others on this site have said between 6-9 months and even up to 1 year. Thanks for all the advice that was given to me prior to my decision of starting on propecia.

Reboot,
Welcome to the Hair Restoration Research Forums. If you experience a shed on Propecia, it is likely to be around the 2 to 4 month mark. I never experienced such a shed on Propecia so I am going by what I hear from others. Additionally, I think believe that many accounts of "sheds" from new users can be chalked up to nothing more than the user paying more attention to his hair due to starting the drug and not seeing results as fast as he would like. Certainly this isn't the case all the time, but I do believe that it happens. It can take 6+ months to begin seeing any regrowth from using Propecia, but that doesn't mean its not working it you don't see regrowth. Regrowth is to be considered an added bonus, no matter what the manufacturer's website may have hair loss sufferer's believe. It is a generally accepted rule of thumb to take Propecia for at least a year before judging its efficacy. This is sound advice, as changing up treatments every couple of months can cause more harm than good. You may also want to consider taking a few photos of yourself every couple of months in similar lighting (in the same place, like a bathroom if at all possible) to ensure that you are judging correctly. This has helped people immensely in determining treatment's efficacy. I know it worked for me. When you see yourself everyday it's hard not to confuse the slow, steady regrowth with no growth at all. -Robert ------------------------------ Check out the results of my surgical hair restoration performed by Dr. Jerry Cooley by visiting my Hair Loss Weblog |

Limited to no regrowth ok, but what about thickening or normalizing of the fine thin hair in balding area. I have a lot of that still left to the point if it went back to normal I could practically avois a transplant. Any experience guys?

It is the thickening and rejuvenation of those miniaturizing hairs that many consider regrowth, so yes, you can most likely expect that if you have as much miniaturized as you say. -Robert ------------------------------ Check out the results of my surgical hair restoration performed by Dr. Jerry Cooley by visiting my Hair Loss Weblog |
