How long on average does it take for shock loss to kick in. And does shock loss also include hair that is already there. I am having much of my tranplant into areas where there is already hair but want to thicken it up. My transplant is with Dr. Epstein May 25th.

Shock loss varies depending on the patient as well as the surgeon...If the surgeon isn't careful, he can damage existing hair follicles when making recipient sites...I guess this shouldn't be called shock loss as much as it should be called cutting existing follicles...

many people like myself, experienced little or no shockloss in either the donor area or the recipient area...with others, the shock loss can actually be in random spots it seems..really no way to predict it..

Shock loss usually happens within a few weeks post-op. It can be permanent if the hair was due to fall out within the next 6 months on its own free will. The healthier hair that is shed from shock loss will normally grow back at around the 3 month mark.
