I am 35 and have been thining in the front and was wondering what I can do?.
I was taking 1 ad with 3 ad about 10 years ago for about 6 months when I was body building.
Could this have been the cause of the problem I am having now with my hair?
I still have thick hair everywhere on my head but the front and my temples.
any ideas would be great

Welcome to the Hair Restoration Research Forums, mark krochko.

It's impossible to say whether the pro-hormones that you were on actually caused your hair loss, but they certainly may have triggered an early onset of MPB, if you had not already been thinning before. Playing with hormones is a touchy subject, as I am sure you already know. Have you looked into Finasteride (Propecia) and/or Minoxidil (Rogaine) yet? These are the only two FDA-approved medicinal treatments for hair loss at the present time and in many cases, guys suffering from MPB can get great results from just them if they catch their thinning early enough.

Robert is certainly correct in stating that pro-hormones/steroids could have caused you to thin/bald prematurely. They can also exacerbate already-existing hair loss. Propecia could very well help you maintain what you have left, or at least slow down the progression of your hair loss.

Do some research on the product you are using. I haven't heard of any positive reviews as of yet. Your mileage may certainly vary, though. If you have that much of it left, you may as well use it though, right?

If you are in the U.S. you can purchase 2% and 5% generic minoxidil from almost anywhere such as drug stores, retail stores, etc. The generic is essentially the same as the name brand and can be significantly cheaper. I use 5% Wal-Mart brand. A 3 month supply costs about $24. If you are just starting on it, you may want to try the 2% first to make sure that it doesn't irritate your scalp. Moving up to the 5% shouldn't be a problem, though. Remember that this stuff can be a pain in the butt, though. It's greasy and doesn't dry fast at all. I get around this by applying it twice at night, making sure the applications are 4 hours apart. Ideally, they are supposed to be 12 hours apart, but the pain of trying to get the hair to look decent after a morning application is just not worth it to me. I figure that two applications is better than 1 even if they aren't 12 hours apart. Play around with it to see how it fits into your own schedule.

You can save some cash by getting a prescription for Proscar instead of Propecia. Proscar is finasteride in 5mg pills while Propecia is 1mg. You can then cut the pills into quarters or even fifths if you are nimble enough. Since Proscar is prescribed for the treatment of BPH and not MPB, it is also usually covered by insurance. This can also add significantly to your savings. Not all physicians are savvy to this or are apprehensive about patients cutting the pills up. It all depends on your doc.

Good luck.
