Well, I am now five months post-op from having 1662 grafts from Dr. Ron Shapiro. You can see the update on my Weblog at:
http://www.hairlossweblogs.com/home-page.asp?WebID=67

Personally, I'm beginning to get 'nervous', which I'm hoping is just a normal phase of hair transplantation. I'm not doubting the talent of Dr. Shapiro, but rather questioning whether I needed more grafts. My goal with this hair transplant was to thicken my hairline and to make it fully natural in appearance. Just by the way my hairdresser is styling my hair, I can tell that she also is trying to cover up my newfound 'thinness' in front.

Is this just temporary shockloss? I didn't think I had many native hairs left in the hairline region to begin with as they were mostly Bosley transplants (thus the need for a more natural and refined hairline).

Will it thicken up considerably over the next few months? I know we often have to wait up to 12 months to see the final results... but I guess I am just going through the waiting game blues, so I had to 'vent'.

Hey M &M

1 more month and you should be noticing growth. Ive had 2 HT's of 1417 & 1476 and both times 6 months was my turning point.. Your final result should be cosmetically apparent at 12 months.. I know its a long wait.. 1600 based on your pics should be enough to fill in the area but I don't know where you had your grafts place??

Be patient Shapiro has a very good reputation so it's most likely your impatiences Smile

Good luck

Hang in there buddy!!!!!! Your hairline will continue to grow in, the hair shafts themselves will continue to thicken in diameter, and of course, over the coming months soften to blend in with your existing hair.

I think you have softened your hairline already, but only you can decide if your happy or not.
Give Matt a call and let him know how your feeling, I'm sure he will put you at ease.
I hope this helps you out and let us know how things are going!!!!!!!!!

Excellent advice B Spot! It's funny that my first instinct was to post on the forum vs. giving Matt a call!

I've been staring at my hair a lot lately and comparing to some 'before' photos and I agree, the hairline has definitely improved. I suppose again that we are our own worst critics as we see such gradual change since we stare at our own hair every day...

I'll call Matt and send some photos his way and see what he thinks.

M&M,

I'd say so far so good at this point. Keep in mind the new hair hasn't been growing that long and you've likely been sprouting sporadically so you should continue to fill in over the next several months and the hairs will thicken.

If I had your density I'd be a happy camper! Lookin' good. Thanks for the update.

Thanks Hairbank for the words of encouragement!

Well, I followed through and sent a note to Matt & Janna and it just reinforced my opinion that they are a group of top-notch classy people at Shapiro Medical! They are out of town, but Janna still managed to get back to me with a very timely and informative response. I feel not only reassured, but also more informed as to what I should expect at this stage in the process.

I'll continue to post photos as each month passes and I look forward to achieving all of my goals!
