I have had 4 previous HTS about 1000 minis and about 1500 FUTs. I have been looking for new Dr because of scaring left by previous one.

Questions.
1.I live in NY and was wondering is it worth it to go all the way to vancuver or can I get the same level of work done much closer?

2.I have bad scarring on right side of about 5mm to 1cm wide. It was recommend in my consult with HW to 3700 FUs and remove scar. This seems dangerous and impossible. Oppinions?

3. Previous Dr strongly advises against doing all FUT becaus of micro scarring as he put it in recipiant area from mini work. Oppinions?

4. Previous Dr also stressed that major shock loss would occur from large dense packing session. Oppinions?

5. Can a large sessions of this size be done with out jepordizing exisiting grafts?

I’ve just scheduled my first HT so most of your questions I can’t help with. The one I can though is in regards to travel and mileage; the geographic location should not, I repeat should not play a major factor in choosing a HT physician. A person should find one of the best physician (which I hear HW is) schedule a consultation and ask as many questions as possible and if you miss a few questions call them back. A quality clinic and surgeon will recommend the same; the Shapiro group actually gave me the cell number to both the consultant and the doctor and said to feel free to call if I had any questions or concerns. A quality surgeon is way more important then miles required to travel to get to them. This is just my opinion and how I chose Shapiro, which by the way is in Minnesota. I hoped this helped.

Who was the previous doctor? He held some very outdated opinions.

MPBC,

Anything other than follicular units is outdated. I wouldn't consider doing any more minigrafting. Regarding major shock loss, how much of your original hair do you have left? I wouldn't think you have much of your original hair left after four transplants. You shouldn't experience much shock loss to your transplanted hair.

As Laughter's Medicine stated, geographic location shouldn't play a major role in your decision, however, there are some very fine physicians in the New York City area. Dr. Bernstein, Dr. Epstein, and Dr. True are all in the New York City area and all come highly recommended on this site. It is always wise to have more than one consult. With that being said, Hasson and Wong have a very good reputation, so you are off to a good start.

MPBC, I consider it highly unlikely that H&W would proceed with a surgery that was in any way deterimental to your condition. I am not a doctor, but after 4 surgeries you might be at the limit, and they feel it is necessary to harvest as many as possible, fix your scar, and correct any previous work. I also feel that your previously transplanted hair is no danger either. I would also hestitate to use the opinions of previous doctors who have left you in this predicament. If you choose to get a second opinion, I would recommend Dr. Shapiro himself. Aside from H&W, he is the only doctor I personally trust to touch my head, and many others feel the same. I really think if you meet with him, he might provide a different perspective, and give you an option of either the best or the best. You will be in good hands in either case, so let us know how it works out. Feel free to PM me if you wish. Hope this helps.

I am a Patient Advocate/Advisor for the Shapiro Medical Group. I am not a doctor. My views and comments do not necessarily represent the views of the Shapiro Medical Group. However, I have stayed at a Holiday Inn.......twice.

I was told I have plenty of donor hair left enough to do 3more 1200gfts from previous Dr.

I sent Dr. Wong photos and he did not seem to think the scar is going to be a problem.

I still have allot of my original hair.
