Hello all. I am a new member, and am starting to see the effects of MPB. I have tried Rogaine, Nioxin, Scalpmed, and am taking Propecia. None of these treatments are said to be for frontal hair loss to my knowlage. My hair line is starting to recede, and I am looking for a alternative. I think FUE is the next step. I was just wondering what the cost per unit was for those who have got the procedure done? Are you satasfied with the results? Does anyone know of a local doctor in MN or someone fairly near by? I would be looking for a larger procedure, and would like to get this done in one sitting.

Thanks

zmail,

Welcome to our community.

As B Spot said...check out Dr. Ron Shapiro from Shapiro Medical Group.

May I ask though...

how old are you? Where are you on the norwood scale? What's your family history of hair loss? Do you have any pictures you can share with us?

I recommend considering staying on Propecia, even if it's not doing anything to regrow hair...it may help you maintain the existing hair you have.

Cheers,

Falc

I hope you stick around long enough to see the humor in your post for those that have been here awhile. Wink Doc Shapiro is right in your backyard, my friend and he's definitely one of the best.

I'm not much of a proponent of FUE though and would recommend strip if you want a larger session. Much more cost effective and you can get many more grafts in one session.

As for Finasteride or Minoxidil, I didn't opt for Minox because of the messy regimen but I'd encourage you to research Finasteride. I've used it for more than a year and have noticed mild hairline regrowth so I know it's helping me there. It should be taken as a preventative to help you keep the native hair that you have.

I guess the question about the local doctor was a dumb one. Sorry for the post. I will try to get pictures up for you guys soon. What is the cost associated with FUE and stip, and what are the advantages and disadvantages of both.

STRIP cost averages $4.50 for the first 2000 grafts then $2.50 for anything more. Some clinics over package pricing for X number of grafts..........you just need to check around. Plan on paying at least double for FUE, maybe more.

As for advan/disadvan of each, there's ton's of threads on this site for you to research. STRIP gives you more grafts in one session and leaves you with a thin "smile-shaped" scar which can normally be covered with 1/2" hair length.

FUE extracts hairs individually and is more controversial with respect to scarring and graft survival rate. Many who opt for FUE do so because they don't think it leaves a noticable scar and they can still shave down. In reality, FUE leaves scars but they are in the form of very small white dots. Also, harvesting thousands of FUE, IMO, can leave you with a "thin-looking" donor area.

Again, do some research using the "find" feature on this site..........there's tons of info for you.

zmail,

Hairbank gave you some great feedback on pricing of strip and FUE and some information about both types of surgeries.

Here is a thread I posted that gives you some additional information:

What FUT method is better: Strip or FUE?

I hope this helps.
