Has anyone checked into survival rates of HT FU's?
I had 1205 Fu's transplanted (around 2.6 hairs per graft-- the wonderful lady disecting said I had a bunch of 3 hair grafts) on 8/31/05 and I was wondering, by average %, how many of the 1205 will take? 80%? 90% or better?

Thanks!

rpm,

Welcome to the Hair Restoration Research Forums.

Of course there are variables, but with a skilled physician making incisions and placing grafts, skilled technicians trimming grafts, and ideal recipient area characteristics (not in scar tissue, etc.) there is no reason that yield of a standard "strip" follicular-unit transplant will not approach 95% +.

Best of luck on your own progress. At around 3 weeks out, you should have had your sutures removed and are probably shedding transplanted hairs. How are things panning out for you? How did you find the healing process to be?

Robert,

Thanks! Better % than I thought, as I feel that all of the variables you mentioned in your post apply to me (ie. skilled Dr, tech, no scars). Sutures were removed on Monday (12 days post op). Dr Rose in Tampa did the procedure and I am very satisfied so far. Another Dr. in TN removed the stiches and complemented the closure and work.
I have a little pink to red tint, but nothing that my existing hair line doesn't cover. I did have 1 whitehead on my scalp yesterday... I hope that wasn't an FU being rejected? Oh well...
The hairs are starting to fall out, I started Minoxidil.

Good to hear. Dr. Rose is a great physician and so I have no doubt that you will have great results.

You will get a few whiteheads over the course of the next few months. They can be a little painful and bothersome, but are normal. I popped a few of mine, but that is not really recommended. Instead of doing that, try a compress with a warm washcloth for 10 to 15 minutes at a time. This should open the pores right up.
