One and a half year ago I started with rogaine (2%) after 3 months I switched to xandrox 5% and minoxidil 5%. I used it religiously for one year (until my HT in August) but didn't see any remarkable results. My hair at the front kept receding and crown maybe stabilized.?
In july of this year I also started with propecia. After 2/3 months of discontinuing on minoxidil I recently started using rogaine 2% again (since one month) and I am still on propecia. At the moment I am 3 months post op and I am experience a lot of shedding can anyone of you shed some light on this situation? Is it possible that the shedding is due to shockloss of HT? Or due to discontinuing minoxidil for 2/3 months? Or is it shedding from the rogaine 2% prior to growing back some more hairs? Or worst case: progressing of my balding in a higher speed? Maybe a combination of this all... So what should I do? continue using rogaine 2%? or should I use minoxidil 5%... |

I hope things are improving for you. I'm surprised nobody else jumped in to explain that Rogaine is minxodil. So you're just comparing concentrations of 2% vs 5% of the same active ingredient. The only variable is what other chemicals are included in the formula.

Anytime you start, stop, or re start meds you can experience shedding. The best bet is to not stop or change the treatment.
I would assume your hairloss is indeed shedding based on your story JOBI 1417 FUT - Dr. True 1476 FUT - Dr. True 2124 FUT - Dr. True My views are based on my personal experiences, research, and objective observations Total - 5017 FU's uncut! |

Maxzor,
I apologize that we are getting back to you so late. I'm not sure how we missed this post. It is possible that you are either experiencing hair shedding due to stopping/changing medication or shock loss from surgery. Since there is really no way to tell for sure, in my opinion, stick with the medication (Propecia and Rogaine 5% or Xandrox if you prefer which contains 5% minoxodil just like Rogaine) and wait out the hair transplant. Hair loss drugs are a lifetime commitment if you want to keep the benefit from them. Best wishes, Falc To learn about how I restored my hair, read my hair restoration story with pictures. Hi guys,
thanks for your advice. Yes I am aware of the fact that xandrox, rogaine and regaine contain the same active ingredient namely minoxidil. Things have worked out pretty good after all, I am currently on proscar and minoxidil 2%. I don't experience a lot of hair loss at the moment, my hair loss seems to have stabilized. I use minoxidil 2% cause it is available in the Netherlands. 5% solution of minoxidil is not available in the Netherlands. I used to order it from internet, but didn't see a lot of improvement. So I think changing/stopping medication and shock loss from surgery caused the majority of shedding. max |
