Hi everyone, new member here. I am 21 years old, and I had lost some hair about a year in a half ago, but all that has stopped because ive been on propecia for a year in a half,I have read that you might be too young, but balding has stopped and I have been on propecia for a year in a half. It has worked very well for me. Am i a candidate for hair transplantation?

Raining,
If you post a photo we can help you determine if you truly are a candidate @ 21.
Just because you have been taking propecia for 1 1/2 years does not mean you are a candidate for a HT.

Contact a few of the coalition doctors recommended by this network. You can submit a request for an online consultation. Just explain your situation, age, and attach some pictures. I have gotten prompt and detailed responses this way, with opinions contradicting those of forum posters. The one thing everyone here seems to agree unanimously upon is that you can trust the Coalition surgeons, so there is absolutely no harm in contacting one of them. I think if you contact a reputable doctor and hear "no" straight from the horse's mouth, it may prevent you from seeking out an unknown doctor who could potentially harm you in the long run by doing the procedure. Then again, some of the coalition docs even have galleries of patients as young as you are who have had success with hair transplantation, so either way it's better to talk directly with them, as they might find a reason to consider you, depending upon several different factors. The fact is that an ht for a patient as young as 21 can be tremendously risky, but Coalition doctors DO perform these procedures on young patients sometimes, and it comes up on the boards every once in a while. You probably will not find the true answer unless you consult one of them- they are represented here for a reason. Good luck! Wink

A word of advice. If you merely have a receding hairline and Finasteride has helped you stop so far.........leave it alone and stick with the meds. If you continue loss you can do something as your loss patter is more established. At your age, you have no way of knowing how far your loss may or may not go. This is just IMO but I think you're too young to consider getting a HT.

Hairbank

1st HT 1-18-05 - 1200 FUT's
2nd HT 2-15-06 - 3886 FUT's Dr. Wong
3rd HT 4-24-08 - 2415 FUT's Dr. Wong

GRAND TOTAL: 7501 GRAFTS

current regimen: 1.25mg finasteride every other day
