Just wondering if anyone has suggestion on limiting redness of both the donor and recipient area....I am on day 9 post surgery and although I know its early I have a history of lasting redness with scars...I was thinking maybe cortisone? any suggestions on what worked for you would be appreciated.

Well, 9 days is way too early to worry about it, but if you say your scars tend to turn red maybe adding some aloe gel (non-alcohol) will help? Try a search and see what else you can do.

Aloe on the recipient area is helpful...for redness and for itchiness. Personally, I like using mederma for the donor area scar, though I would wait a few weeks before applying it.

I had some luck with Aloe Vera, although its effects only lasted a few hours. Then I had to re-apply it.

irish,

I know I started using it right after my stitches came out after the second HT, so I'm sure you're safe at this point. I have suggested to a few people maybe waiting a month, however, mostly to give the scar more of a chance to heal since the scar tends to be pretty sensitive for the first month. BUT, it shouldn't be problematic using it earlier...as I said...I did and had no problem...gave it a jump start into healing faster.

Brothers, I am a big advocator of Aloe vera as many of you know for speeding up healing in both areas. Can't apply too much of that stuff!!
MSM will aid healing also as well as speed up growth.
Distilled witch hazel is a good one also for drawing out lingering redness!

At the end of the day mother nature is the girl that works best so help her as much as poss - eat/sleep well and drink lots of water - every little helps Wink

Grow and heal well all!!!!
