I'm a 17 year old male, and for the past two months i've literally been paranoid and obsessed about my hair, taking a few hundred pictures A DAY of my head (this has since stopped) just to check if i was losing hair.
i've recently began to worry about my hairline, i don't know if it's receding or maturing. The hair on my temples is now really thin and at the sides of my head, i'd say im going to a number 2 on the norwood scale, im not sure if this is my hairline receding or maturing. My dad was bald by the time he was 40 (started properly as far as im aware in his late 20's) and my grandfather on my mothers side died with a full head of hair (but with a mature hairline im sure) i have brown hair like my grandfather did, where as my dad had black hair, im not sure if thats important information about future hairloss. i've got blood tests results in soon to see if my hair could be falling out (ironically) from stress ABOUT my hair falling out (even though i first started worrying about hairloss when my hair was done in a fashion which you could see my hairline and i thought it was a bald spot), i can deal with it maturing even though it effects my hairstyle, but, hairloss is always going to be a fear. I have from this. two questions:. 1. Is my hair most likely falling out right now or just "maturing" and 2. if in future i was to get hair grafts or transplants, how much would it cost and how would i go about this?, and most importantly is it noticeable?. thanks for any helps. im kinda crapping myself

The hairline can start to mature (and actually often does) after puberty, so at 17 it's possible that this is what you're experiencing. I think they usually say on average that it can occur between the ages of 17 and 30 or something like that. The early stages of MPB and the maturation of the hairline can start around the same time, however. You might want to see a dermatologist or hair loss specialist to determine what exactly is going on.

As for me, this happened when I was about 20. I noticed a slight change in my appearance, but couldn't quite put my finger on it. It was only after I carefully compared photos that I saw the mild recession.

My juvenile hairline was once like a wear wolf's; after it matured, it looked like a normal, "man's" hairline (whatever that means exactly). The hairline rose about a half inch at the upper temple angles, and the widow's peak kind of disintegrated. It often moves up a little more on one side, like where you have had a cowlick, as mine did also. My hairline hasn't moved for the past 6 years (although I have been on Propecia for 3).

I freaked out about it at the time (so much so that I got a transplant) but believe me, most would never notice it or consider it balding. A lot of people probably just consider this look the result of a having a higher forehead, if anything at all.

ohh thanks very much, im going to be more like the guy on the right, not david beckham but. right now the hair in my right temple is really thin and the left hand side temple is completely gone, do you reckon if i started propecia i'd be able to reverse what's already happened?

I doubt Propecia will regrow hair in that region, but it could protect you from future loss. It's a serious drug though, so you'd better speak with your doctor or one knowledgeable about hair loss. Usually, you have to be 18 to receive a prescription too. Good luck.

Spenny, its completely natural to be freaking out. I started losing my hair when i was about 21 and it really bothered me. See a dermatologist and get some advice. The good news is that you're in the right place. Do your research and you'll have the best tools at your disposal to deal with any potential hairloss (if it turns out to be the onset of MPB).
