Ok, even though I thought the photo description on our site was enough I still get lots of questions on how to do this. So, this should alleviate any questions but of course if you still have some then just let me know.

Joe,

Nice work on this video. I'm hearing very good things about the effectiveness of these scalp excercises, which all patients should be doing prior to surgery.

I did a write up about your new video and included a link to the video on our blog. To view this post, click here.

All the best, Pat

I buy wholeheartedly into scalp exercises. For those of us who have average donor supply, possessing above average scalp laxity allows us to get "more" grafts, than if our scalp laxity was tight. I think doing these excercises enhance natural laxity, especially in the region right behind the ears. I would encourage everyone to do these, at least 2 to 3 weeks in advance of surgery. (Joe, if I am wrong on the time before surgery please correct me).
My secret is this-- I tell my fiancee that it is imperative that these scalp exercises be done, no matter what. This way, I get a free head rub, and I don't have to do them myself all of the time Big Grin

Pat,

Thanks for the write up. I think items like this need to have constant exposure so they are not missed.

Bspot,

When people ask me how soon before a procedure they should start these exercises I simply say, "yesterday". As Dr. Wong states, you can't have a scalp that is too loose. We feel that even if you start one week before your procedure (dillengently) that it can help albeit not much but anything is good. If one can start roughly three weeks beforehand then that is good. Again, one should start these even if they're considering a procedure.

How about starting 3 months before a procedure? I haven't been doing it for 30 minutes a day...in fact, that's the first I heard that length of time. But I've been doing it 2 or 3 times a day and I have noticed a good difference in my scalp laxity. One more month to go.
