Hi,
I'm 30 and I think I should try Propecia+Rogaine before I consider HT. Questions: 1. Can I see one of the surgeons recommended here towards that end only? 2. What is the avg. monthly cost of Propecia and Rogaine? 3. How long should I wait after starting to come to a conclusion? My hairloss is along the temples (I'm ok with that more or less) and in the middle of the head and going to the crown. It's the middle that looks real bad. I don't want to spend $10,000 right now when I'm 30 and my long term hair loss pattern isn't established. Thanks. |

Curious,
I'm not sure I understand your first question but will try to help you on the others. Propecia typically costs about $65 or so a month with an added $10 or so a month for Rogaine ends up being $75. if you get a prescription for Proscar, which still contains active ingredient finasteride, you can save a lot of money while working to treat baldness with the same effect. Proscar contains 5mg of finasteride and must be cut into quarters with a pill splitter. The average cost for a 4 month supply is approximately $80, which will end up being $20 per month plus the additional $10 or so a month for the minoxidil. In my opinion, giving hair loss medication (especially those with minimal balding) 6 months to a year to work is best before considering hair replacement surgery. This will allow the treatment a chance to work to potentially stimulate hair regrowth and may even eliminate the need for surgery, if you are lucky. At the very least, these two treatment options have a great chance to stop future hair loss. I hope this helps. Hello Falc,
My first question was to determine if any of the recommended surgeons (Dr. Rahal in my case, I live in Toronto) would see someone knowing that the person isn't going to go for HT surgery. And would they write me a prescription while assessing and providing their opinion on whether medication would help my particular case. Thanks for the pricing info. |
