Here is an article which may be interresting :

"Gene therapy
The idea behind gene therapy is to introduce new DNA (usually through an infectious agent) to hair cells to alter them so that they won't be affected by DHT and won't go bald. Obviously, if this could ever be done, a great deal of proof of safety would be required. Some genes leading to hair loss have been discovered but there are likely many others. To the best of our knowledge, there is research about the genetics of hair loss but there is no current research about gene therapy treatment for hair loss."

When do you think is this method going to be used for surgery ? I think that's a brilliant idea !!

Jamie,

Welcome to our community,

Interesting article.

I'm not sure what you mean by your question about this method being used for surgery. Surgery to date involves removing hair follicles that are not genetically predisposed to DHT and transplanting them surgically on top of your head. Gene Therapy (if it's ever available for hair loss) is a completely different animal. To date, there is some research in this area, but there is no real projection as to when a treatment would be available.
