shizzle-medizzle,
RED FLAG#1: 'no touch technique"...
RED FLAG#2: $2.50 per "hair"...
you don't exactly want to go to a coupon clicking clinic for a HAIR TRANSPLANT!!!
From my understainding DHI is the UK eq. to American Bosley;
which=Mcdonalds dog shit of a ht.

They are a hair-mill, they pop out ht's in a fast food fashion.
PM a member on this forum who goes by the handle Chucky, for some (negative) feed back about DHI.

If you can't afford a world class doc right now
-AND-
financing is not an option;
then you should def. WAIT!!!

I don't know your situation, but if you think your self-cons. now, wait until you have:
-a horrid scar.
-flush away a few 'K' ($).
-a pluggy, un-natural hair line PERMANENTLY stuck to the top of your mop, two inches above your eyes, within ear shot of everyone in a crowded room.
-have gone through the emotional roller coaster of a ht, including the months of wondering/impatience of *how* shitty your result will turn out.
-AND-
in my opinion, the *worst* of all of the afore mentioned conditions, having WASTED a significant % of your FINITE donor hair...
WAIT!!!
********
MORE OF MY NONSENSE--------
I pm'ed chucky on your behalf. Hope you guys touch base, as I always HATE to see guys in your situation make a hasty decision...
fill me in...

You're really not all that far away from a world-class hair clinic at about $4 per graft. Listen to NG2GB, he is speaking the truth!

At 40, you might just be wishing you were bald so you don't have to cover up a bad job. Check out the dude in Vegas, as I think he does in-house financing. Look up and click on "Find a Surgeon".

Good luck and take your time.

Listen to NGTGB.... I know it is not what you want to hear if your financial situation is such that 4 or 5 bucks a graft is too much.

Spend an hour or so on this site and do some research. The number one piece of advice all the educated give is, "Do your research..." And if you do YOUR research, you will find that the red flags mentioned above are for good reason!

Please wait if you cannot afford, please. Most top-notch docs offer financing these days as well, so keep that in mind.

Hi shizzlehair
Welcome to the forum.
I guess you are from the UK or Ireland if you are looking at these DHI locations.
Personally i would not use them as i had a bad ht with them in Greece and read countless other stories of bad experiences with them.
The only patient who seems satisfied with his results is Petesman who posts on here and had his procedure in Ireland.

Are you sure they are quoting you Dollars and not Euro`s or pounds as that price is way to cheap for them unless the forums are doing a good job and warning people about them, therefor they are struggling for business.
Remember as well its priced at per hair and not per graft so if a graft contains four hairs you pay $10 or whatever for that graft.

The no touch technique is just a marketing name for fue as they have to touch your scalp to extract and implant.

Basically listen to the advice given and do more research.

Dr. Jean Devroye you mentioned is doing good work and is well worth consulting with.

If you are in the UK you may also want to take the opportunity to have a consult with Dr Feller who will be travelling from America to London in the near future,he does fue and there will be patients you can meet to see their results. Here is a link to the consult post

http://hair-restoration-info.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/7466060861/m/6641093763

Can i ask you where you had your consult and who the consultant was for DHI.

Also are you on any meds and what level of hairloss are you at.

I trust this is of help to you.

Thanks to everyone for the welcoming and the words of warning (especially to NG2GB)!

I suspected it was a bad idea but guess I needed to hear it from someone else, so I´m not going through with it right now. Will wait until I can afford a solution that´s not going to ruin my life even more. Bad enough with the existing hair loss...

To answer your questions Chucky: I am from Europe but actually living temporarily in the US (NYC) right now. That´s why the quote was in dollars. Have a trip to Europe very soon and therefore it was tempting to have it done at the same time.

So if anyone knows of cost effective FUE in the US I´d love to hear about it, although I realize now that quality has to be the first criteria.

Also been trying to figure out how to classify my level of hair loss but it´s a bit tricky. Basically the hair line has receded just a little bit and I´m losing hair very evenly on the temporal, frontal and vertex. There isn´t any bald spot but the hairs on these areas are just very far apart from each other. I don´t know what number that is on the Norwood scale but I would say I´ve lost around half of my hair on those areas. It´s been going on for around 3 years now. As I said before it was estimated I need around 2.500 - 3.000 hairs transplanted (this was a virtual consultation based on pictures I sent, I thought it all sounded realistic though).

I´m in my early 30´s and I´ve had long nice hair for half of my life, so this is quite a big issue for me. I guess it´s time to get used to a very short hair cut but since I have dark hair and a pale scalp it looks quite bad with a shaved head (because all the baldness will show quite clearly). That is the reason I´d like to have a FUE, so I can have a very short hair cut. The latest couple of years I´ve been wearing caps but I´m starting to get quite sick of all the comments about me sleeping with it on. To make things worse my lengthy relationship just ended, so having major issues about appearance, self esteem etc.

Sorry, didn´t mean to turn this into a therapy session;-)

About medication, started taking Propecia just a week ago, but actually I´m a bit worried about side effects.

Fo Shizzle,

Hey man, don't apologize for lengthy posts... you are in the right place here. There are so many (honest and educated) patients, soon to be patients and doctors on this site. This place very well can be a therapy session for many, myself included.

I would suggest that you post some pics on here and get the advice of the forum. I am no expert but if you are in need of close to 3000 grafts, might FUT suit you better? The scar left by this procedure can be covered with short hair, not a buzz cut, but like you mentioned a clean, short cut.

If you are dead set on FUE, I would certainly contact Dr. Fellar. His results and testimonials are among the top! There are some good HT docs in the big apple, take advantage of the free online consultations.

Also, check out the 'Patient Photo Albums' part of this forum. I spent the better part of a year every night on this site before committing, again you are in the right place and surrounded by guys that KNOW EXACTLY HOW YOU FEEL AND WHAT YOU ARE GOING THOUGH!

I've been taking propecia for 9 years now, no real side effects. The mind is a very powerful tool, it's been mentioned on here before that most believe the side effects are due to the individuals own worries/fears. There is a small percentage of folk that are negatively effected. But it is a very small percentage!

Best of luck to you, bud.

MbM

Research research research. Look at FUE vs FUT, get more than one opinion. If you have pics it might help
