I am just now getting set back up on a regimen to include Nioxin in the morning and before bed time (in the front hairline area, to keep it clean), 5% minoxidil at those times (twice a day), and I am visiting a doctor next week to get started on Propecia.

I plan on sticking with this for a couple of years, until one of 2 things happen...

1) I am convinced it either works or doesn't
2) I decided on an HT doctor.

Can anyone out there give a clue as to how much a procedure costs, in $/graft, or however it is measured?

Thanks in advance...

Jeff

P.S. I plan on searching out a doctor in the USA... no matter where he or she is, if that time does come.

Regimen: 1 propecia taken in the morning, 3 shots 5% minoxodil twice a day around the hairline, 1% Nizoral several times a week

JetFlyBoy,

Good luck with your regimen, but please allow me to make a few suggestions:

1. Though you may be hesitant due to the potential for side effects, an internal DHT inhibitor such as Propecia is the cornerstone of most successful regimens. Minoxidil is a great growth stimulant, but does nothing to inhibit DHT.

2. I utilize the Nioxin Actives Cleanser (shampoo) and Scalp Therapy (conditioner) because I think that it is a great shampoo/conditioner combo and has a great cosmetic effect on the hair. I don't use the spray treatment anymore and I cannot comment on the medicinal claims of any Nioxin products.

3. Many users of Nizoral 2% (available by prescription) shampoo or even Nizoral 1% (available OTC) benefit from its use three times a week. It's a very cheap addition to your regimen and helps to maintain optimal scalp health.

As far as the cost of surgical hair restoration, physicians in the U.S. typically charge around $4 to $6 per graft transplanted. Some are less and some are more, it just depends on the physician. Some also offer a discount per graft after a certain number such as 1,500 or 2,000. My second-most dispensed advice right behind "Don't pick a physician on geographic location" is "Don't pick a physician on price."

You get one scalp and a very limited donor area supply. Choose wisely.

The good news is, the best physicians are usually more cost-friendly than the "mills."

Here is a link that can go into it a little more "in-depth":

Hair Transplant Cost

(Hint: don't neglect to check out the "Graft Calculator" on the right side of the page. it's a good tool for estimating how many grafts you may need to have transplanted at your desired density.)

Best of luck to you,

-Robert
