hello every one .......,

I'm 21 years old and have been having hair loss since 5 years.

when consulted a doctor recently, they confirmed it to be premature hereditary baldness.

So now I'm thinking to have hair transplant done and i just wanted to make sure that this process is safe and check if there is any other option.

Is it good to have transplant at this age ???

would there be any problems later ???

and are there any side effects for the drug FINAX ?? which was suggested by the doctor to be used on a long term ??? Confused

hi robbie, and welcome.i dont think anyone on here would advise getting a ht at 21 you still could have a lot of hairloss to come.i think this factors highly on where to take donor and then place it.i know what your going through but dont give up hope, definatly get on the meds straight away to slow/stop/and maybe regrow some of your hairloss.finax ive not heard of im asuming its a generic finastride, if it is get on it and also minoxidil 5%.what norwood are you ?at 21 id lost a shitload of hair i was gutted i shaved the lot off.stayed like that for 15 years untill at the ripe old age of 35 i thought fuck it time to get my hair back.did the research, got the good dr farjo to put half of it back where it should be and a year later ive got hair back on my noggin.have patience son and do your research dont make any rash decisions.

robbie, finasteride can cauae side effects.
According to the makers of the drug, only 2% of
men experienced side effects in clinical studies.
The most common is sexual disfunction.
I copied this off the drug makers web site:

Like all prescription products, PROPECIA may cause side effects. In clinical studies, side effects from PROPECIA were uncommon and did not affect most men. A small number of men experienced certain sexual side effects. These men reported one or more of the following: less desire for sex; difficulty in achieving an erection; and, a decrease in the amount of semen. Each of these side effects occurred in less than 2% of men. These side effects went away in men who stopped taking PROPECIA. They also disappeared in most men who continued taking PROPECIA.

In general use, the following have been reported: allergic reactions including rash, itching, hives and swelling of the lips and face; problems with ejaculation; breast tenderness and enlargement; and testicular pain. You should promptly report to your doctor any changes in your breasts such as lumps, pain or nipple discharge. Tell your doctor promptly about these or any other unusual side effects.

Keep in mind once you start taking propecia, you must continue, if you stop taking it any hair you regrew will fall out.
So there is a commitment once you start.

So as you can see robbie, there is some risk of unpleasent side effects.

As far as getting a hair transplant at 21 years old, it is usually not a good option, Although for a few young people it may be.
However if you could post a pic so we know the extent of your hairloss, we can be better equipped to advise you.

Hang in there & keep researching!

robbie,

Welcome to our community.

Regarding age and transplantation, I'll let you decide. I recommend reading the following threads I've posted on this subject:

Am I Too Young For a Hair Transplant?

Regarding finasteride, read folica's response...he gave you some good information. I'll just add that any side effects have been said to be reversible if/when the drug is stopped.
