Hi All

I had a question for the vets.. Does having a larger head equate to the need for more grafts relatively speaking? I realize there are other factors such as hair quality, donor count, etc. but all things constant wouldn't there be a larger balding area?

I think it would as the percentage or balding area would be larger than a person with a small head with the same hairloss ratio? i.e. the need for more grafts to cover more surface area.

Just curious..

Also, I have been doing my scalp exercises for my third HT . Is it normal for the donor area to be sore due to this? Mine is but I feel it getting looser Smile

Thanks

Yes a larger head can definitely equate to a larger amount of FU needed and the opposite is also true. I realize that many of the surgeons will tell you that we almost all average about the same size (200 cm2) for NW6 (I believe that number is correct), but if you have the head the size of Kazoo (from Flintstones) you can count on more grafts.

One thing that is interesting though is that if you have a bigger head you will likely have a bigger donor area also so that aspect of things balances.

I have a buddy that is a NW5-6 and I truly believe that he would look like full coverage and good density with 3500 or less FU because he has a head the size of a peanut.

larger head = more donor = more area to cover
smaller head = less donor = less area to cover.

My guess is that they even out.

I would think that is a fairly good assessment John NC.

LOL Big Grin

It seems to me as we get older we tend to gain weight and our heads also expand (to a point) to the great disadvantage of our perceived hair density. If only we could find a way to shrink our heads we might be able to avoid an HT entirely. I understand a tribe in the Amazon is working on a drug for this, they will be running double blind trials and they need volunteers Wink

Thanks

I know it evens out due to donor ratio ( big head more donor) but I am talking about sheer number of graft to cover an area..

Just curious.
