Have a great hairy 2008 to begin with. So after doing all the research and meeting 5 doctos recommended on this forum, i finally decided to hold off my surgery as some of them suggested on trying finasteride for some time...so, i am going to go on that route as i dont want to have any regrets later on....My question to you guys is what is the best concealer out there to hide my bald spots till the time i get my surgery done..I know dermatch has been recommended a lot...i would really appreciate if people who are using it would respond about its positives and negatives..Does it do any damage to exisiting hair..also, is it available off the shelf or one has to order it online....Are there any other concealers out there that are worth trying...I just want to hide my bald spots till i get the surgery done...

Dermmatch won't do damage to your hair; if I remember reading aright, it contains ingredients that are either neutral-to-beneficial to your hair.

Dermmatch is prolly the king of the concealers; however, if you really want to try to maximize the illusion of density follow a dermmatch session w/ a concealer like toppik...toppik is prolly the most popular of the "fiber based" products, though Nanogen has received some more positive reviews when compared to toppik....not that toppik is bad.

However, actual bald spots will be tough -- if even possible -- to conceal, or hide; you really need some existing hair to get pumped up and blended in w/ the concealers.

Depending on your hairloss, concealers can work wonders; not a panacea, but they can really alter your look when used right.

Your replies are always great....So looks like you have been using dermatch....i dont have any bald spot as such...i am just a diffused thinner...So where did you buy your dermatch from...Also, are you supposed to use it everday....i would just like to use it occasionaly on social events because i heard it can get messy..

Anyways, as a diffused thinner you may very well be a great "candidate" for concealers. I think I got mine from the site follica (or folica, I forget how it is spelled).

You are not obliged in any way to use the product everyday; it is totally to your discretion and it won't change its effect. However, in a certan sense you may find yourself bound to the concealer -- you may look quite different with and without it, and there can be a certain psychological dependence. Possibly.

The application itself isn't messy at all once you get the hang of it -- at least for me. At first it can be a bit intimidating, but you will slowly but surely excel at it in time.

Check out my post in the open section; it is told in jest, but it does speak to a certain insanity w/ regard to using concealers.

Can i order it from Dermatch company itself. My only concern is my crown area....that is where the bald patch is increasing....My doctor told me to take Finpecia...and hopefully things will improve..i have been using rogaine there for like 5 years but things have not improved but did not get worst either....also, how is propecia working for you..

Propecia has worked very well for me; it is the strongest thing you can take to fight your hairloss, especilly in the crown. At the very least, you will be giving yourself the best shot to fight it. You sound to be in relatively good shape.

Ya, could order it directly from their site; I don't have much experience ordering stuff online like this, so I don't know if you could find a way to get a better deal. But, certaintly ordering from dermmatch itself is sound.

If you still have some hair on your crown then toppik is probably your best option. Its not messy in that area and takes seconds to apply. Where its not so good is on a thinning hairline.

I tried dermmatch once, found it way too messy and binned it but i do recognise that it takes a little practice...i just didn't have the patience.
If u can then maybe you should order 1 of each initially and see which works best for u.

You have already received some excellent advise from our forum members.

As a diffuse thinner, holding off on a hair transplant to pursue Propecia is a great idea. I'd consider adding Rogaine 5% foam or liquid into your regime. It is said that when both of these medications are used in combination with one another, they have a synergistic effect, ultimately, increasing the chance of regrowing hair than either stand alone product.

There are a number of concealor products that have been discussed. I've personally only tried dermatch and wasn't impressed personally but this is probably due to my lack of diligence and learning how to apply it. However...MANY have had great success with it.

Toppik and nanogen concealors are others to consider. I can't tell you much about them from personal experience however, everyone seems to have their own preference.
