I have been wanting to get hair transplant for awhile now but the only thing that is stopping me is the cost. With the recession, any chances these doctors will lower their price? Someone here must have some influences.

I doubt it, but it can't hurt to ask.
HTs are a luxury so to speak, so I really don't think that prices are going to be lowered. |

mgmjtech,
You can investigate surgeons who reside/practice in "Third World" countries with lower costs of living and production. I believe there are some Coalition surgeons in Pakistan and Thailand. You will have to check and see on this forum and inquire for their pricing structures. take care... |

I think they will, for the most part. Of course some will have enough demand that they won't have to. But, I never thought cars would drop like they have and you can just about steal a Ford or Chevy right now.

Ask to be put on standby, if somebody cancels, they will offer you their spot at a reduced rate.

Almost all doctors will do this, but you have to be in a position to get yourself to the clinic within a few days of getting a phone call from them.
Actually a few years ago I went for a consult with Dr. Hasson and he said they had an open date the following day and he would give me a huge discount if I wanted to book the next day. It was a very tempting offer but I just wasn't ready to pull the plugs at that time. Typically you can get 25% +/- off the regular cost. |

The major problem with this sort of arrangement is the travelling, and all the surrounding travel arrangements.
take care... |

Yes, the travel arrangement may actually cost you more. It is quite common to see airfare doubling, tripling or more, a few days before departure.
I have a flexible work, so I could have gone stand by with HT. However, considering the risk of airfare cost vs the discount for HT (offered by dr. Cooley), it was not worth it for me. ******** I am not a doctor. The opinions and comments are of my own. HT with Dr. Cooley on Nov 20, 2008 2097 grafts, 3957 hairs Proscar, 1.25 mg daily, skip the 5th day, started Nov 2007 My Hair Loss Blog - Hair Transplant with Dr. Cooley |

I can speak from experience. I have a friend who just asked his HT doctor to reduce the price because he was paying cash and they did. It is tough times for these doctors, just like other businesses, and they NEED clients. This is kind of a "name your own price" economy. I just got a brand new box spring and mattress priced at $875.00 closeout for $500.00 out the door, tax and all!

I am in Alberta, Canada.
Pakitan is a long way but i will be looking into the standby stuff. first time I heard of it but never hurt to ask. I am sure with the economy right now, bargain the price is the way to go. "Ask to be put on standby, if somebody cancels, they will offer you their spot at a reduced rate." |

Just be cheeky and email with photos all the best docs on here and tell them you are on a strict budget
They can only say no.... |

You will find that clinics who have dwindling waiting times will have to offer discounts to get bums on seats - Just be wary though as clinics who offer "incentives" often need you more than you need them
If a clinic has an opening within the next month then capitalise on it IMO by attempting to get a discount. If they have a 3 + month waiting list then the doc is unlikely going to have to offer anything other than the next available date. I live in NYC and have really liked the results for Dr. Feller so far. Can some people here tell me about the deals they got with him?

Hi Telepinu,
Dr Feller doesn't do "deals" as has a healthy waiting list and doesn't need to incentify patients towards him by dropping the price or holiday packages to get them in the door. Dr Feller patients as you will see if you read up generally come away with a lot more grafts than they pay for though- which brings the overall cost of the surgery down compared to what patients actually receive and what they pay for. Hope this helps. Spex I am a paid showcase and "patient coordinator" for Dr Feller, Coalition Member in the UK - all opinions expressed are my own.
