If I have about 800-1000 done, about how long will it take before I can go back to work without any visual signs of the procedure?

first of all - I hope you're going FUE route, because getting a strip for only 1000 is plain stupid. If you can wear a hat you can go to work a few days after surgery. Otherwise, it will take a good few weeks, even for a small amount, before it becomes undetectable.

I somewhat agree with the 2 posters that you should consider no less than 1500 your first time with a HT.

Smaller procedures can eventually be more harmful than helpful.
