Man, I am loosly scheduled for a 1200 graph procedure with dr. Aronovitz in Michigan in mid March. I need to commit by the 21st of this month or they will give my time away. I play music for a living and have a concert just nine days after my procedure. I'm thining in the front not bald. Does any one know if it will be obvious I've had work done after nine days? Should I wear a hat? Is there still some pain from the doner area? I'm so nervous about the whole thing, it all seems so shallow at times but this is something that has bothered me everyday for almost ten years. I really don't want to regret this. Iv'e done a lot of homework and Dr. Aronovitz really seems to be the guy in my area. Just looking for some answeres and support.

At nine days you should be able to conceal the work IF you don't shave your head and leave the hair longer in all over..I went back to work at about 9-10 days and used dermatch. The pain will be there but not a substantial factor unless you play sax of something?
Not sure about Dr. A , if he is in the coalition you should be fine . JOBI 1417 FUT - Dr. True 1476 FUT - Dr. True 2124 FUT - Dr. True My views are based on my personal experiences, research, and objective observations Total - 5017 FU's uncut! |

HTnerves,
Congratulations on your decision to undergo hair transplant surgery. To clarify however, there are two Dr. Aronovitz's. One is in the Coalition. The other is Dr. James Aronovitz who is the nephew of Dr. Leonard Aronovitz (in the Coalition). In the coming weeks/months, I hope to be contacting Dr. James Aronovitz to learn more about his technique and see more of his work. FYI -- I received a letter from Tessler & Aronovitz's office yesterday (Monday) stating that Dr. James Aronovitz has left the practice (returning to ENT practice) while Dr. Tessler is returning to "active duty" after being on R&R.

htnerves...Two weeks ago, I was in the same boat as you are in now...very nervous...confused as to which surgeon to pick...wondering how "goofy" I would look afterwards...feeling guilty about spending so much money on a transplant...wondering how much pain would there be and when I would be able to return to an "active" life...etc. However, I finally took the ht "plunge" two weeks ago today (Tuesday) and had my first ht. Thus, to answer a few of your questions: 1. For me, it has been very obvious that I had a ht. Thus, for the past two weeks after surgery...I have either been "hiding" from everyone or wearing a hat. I do look really goofy. However, as of today, almost all of my scabs are gone...so I hope that within the next week...I will begin to look "pre-ht" and be able to "lose the hat". Then the "excitment" begins of, hopefully, watching my "new" hair grow! 2. After two weeks, most of the donor area pain is gone. There is still a little tenderness and numbness. I still have to sleep on my side because sleeping on my back still puts too much pressure on the donor area. 3. Twelves days after sugery...I went for my first run (3 miles). Not being a musician, I'm not sure how the effort you may experience on stage would relate to the effort to run 3 miles. However, I would say that after nine days, you could at least be on stage and, at least, stand there and play. My surgeon restricted my return to "normal" activities (including running and washing my hair under the shower head)) until after my donor area stitches were removed (10 days). Even then, I waited a couple of more days...just to be "safe" that the donor area was good and healed. Feel free to contact me with any additional questions you may have. I fully understand your fear for I went through my procedure "alone" (i.e. no support group/contacts)...which no one should have to endure. |

Getfuzzy, Firstly, welcome back! Secondly, I was unaware of this. I'll contact the clinic hopefully tomorrow to obtain more information. Wuddup fellow musician. As long as you don't shave your head for the ht you should be fine, looks wise. If you don't currently have longer hair in the front that you can use as bangs or mini-bangs or whatever to cover up the hairline ht work, you can by mid-March. If you're in a rock band then a hat isn't out of the question anyway. There should be no pain 9 days post op. I didn't really have any pain period, but it felt annoying in the donor area and numb for a while in the recipient. I still ate those pk's though.

Hello, responding to a note from Get Fuzzy on Feb4th, Dr. James Aronovitz not stopped doing hair transplants to go back full time to his ENT and facial plastic surgery practice. True he has left the practice of Tesser & Aronovitz, but he is in the process of opening his own office. Until it is open he can be reached at (removed) with any questions. Thanks

I also have a ht sch for apr 4th with dr tessler. I am also very neverous. I am 25 and have been wanting to do this for years. I just don't have the time to take 10 days off to recover. So I am having the ht on friday and hopefully will be back at work on Monday. I have heard many diffrent views on how quick people recover from HT'S and how u look after. I am in retail and have to deal with people every day. I just don't want to look like a fool at work!

hair guy,
How you look on Monday after having surgery on a Friday will vary on a number of factors...primarily where you are having the transplants placed, how large of a procedure you are having, and if you have existing hair that can "cover up" the transplant area. For me, I had a rather large transplant session that spanned the entire top of my head...with no existing hair that could cover up the transplanted area. Tomorrow is my two-month transplant surgery anniversary and it has only been over the past week where I feel comfortable seeing people without a hat on. I also have very light colored skin...so there is still a lot of redness in the surgical area that can be visibly seen in bright lighting. This is normal for me for if I get a pimple or a cut, it can take many months before the "redness" goes away. However, if you have a darker complextion, this may be a non issue for you. Also, I have been getting a lot of acne it the transplant area. Again, I would assume that this is because of my skin "characteristics". As a teen ager, I had really bad acne and, although I have out-grown it, the top of my head...which has been used to being hair free for so long...seems to be adjusting the nature "oils" the new transplanted hair produces. I'm hoping the acne will gradually reside...or at least not be as visible as the transplanted hair continues to grow. Best of luck with your procedure! |

HT nerves,
Don't let geography make your decision on where to go, not taking anything away from the doc. There are a lot of options out there just keep an open mind. What kind of music? You only live once... |
