How long after surgery does the tightness in the back of the head go away? Is it normal to still have slight swelling where the stitches were tied off (20 days post op)... Any feedback is appreciated.....

We all heal a little differently, but I'll share my experience. For starters, I've had two HT's. The first was a little over a year ago, the second was just 13 days ago.

First HT was only 1200 FUT's and the tightness was gone after a couple of months for sure. I don't remember swelling past the first week or two......there might have been a little. If you continue to have it try icing it for 5 minutes or so several times a day and that should help.

As for right now (13 days post-op 2nd HT) and I have no swelling on the donor area but it's still a little tight, not bad. I had more FUT's (3886) this time so I imagine that's a factor.

Also, I had sutures the first time and staples the second. To me, the staples seem to have been superior to this point. I remember having a lot of scabbing with the sutures while I have virtually none with the staples and the scar is healing very thin.

Just my opinion but I think 1 year is a long time to have tightness. I would think it should be gone at about the 3-4 month mark, maybe a little longer for a big session.

For me, it seemed like the tightness and numbness lasted nearly a year after my first HT. Got my 2nd HT a little over three months ago and the tightness and numbness is already gone.

It has been 3 months and I feel very little tightness if any at all. I think it will differ on how people skin stretches.
