How long does propecia last for?
I seen that it works for 90% of males after 5 years. How long after does it work after that?
I am sure your body will become immune to it and ignore eventually.

Hell, you could tell me that it does no good after 5 years and I'd still keep popping it. I certainly noticed it help slow down my balding.

I've heard on this forum that after 10 yrs. its benefits decrease. I've been on it 8 yrs. and will continue 'til I'm convinced otherwise.

Chris,
You are still much better off staying on the drug. The great majority of men taking finasteride realize an increase in "hair mass" during the first 4-5 years; then there is a very gradual loss of same, but not nearly at the steep curve and rate as if you weren't taking the drug. At one conference I attended a couple of years ago, the speaker said that after 5 years, 30% of men look better than when they started, 50% look about the same and hold their own, and 20% look thinner. My gut feeling is that the last group would still look far worse had they not been taking the drug. My own personal experience is that 80% of the men I give it to have a positive result and look better when seen back in 2-3 years. When pinned down on exactly how long a given man will have to take the drug, my reply is "until the next wonderful thing comes along!."

Good post, Mike!

And........my thoughts exactly. It's proven to be effective and at the very least has a good chance of helping you keep what you have.

I think the key with anything used for prevention....i.e. Finasteride, Duasteride, Minox.......is to plan on sticking with it for the long haul.

Been on it 8 yrs myself and still holding me solid - If i had not got on in when i did - hell knows where i would have ended up.
I meet many guys who mention that they thought Propecia was doing very little for them so the ceased taking it - when they did they all remarked on how it must have been working as their hair loss drastically increased after a period of stopping it.

Moral of the story - if it ain't broken don't fix it Wink

"How long is a piece of string" - what i mean is I think we all respond differently so its very difficult to gauge what will happen to YOU and how long it will work for YOU.

Chris,

You've gotten some excellent replies, including one from medical expert Dr. Beehner. I agree with the advice given so far.

I've been on Propecia for almost 4 years, and believe that it is still helping me maintain the hair below my crown. Thankfully, I have had no side effects.
