Welcome to our forum. In the old days surgeons did some times orient grafts straight up and down vertically. This was really not natural as you realize. More recently physicians have become much more aware of how the angle and direction of hair changes depending on the area of the head it is growing from. To learn more about "lateral slit" placement, click here.. Hasson and Wong have had a great deal to do with popularizing and teaching this technique. Many of the physicians members of the Coalition use this technique as well. I do believe that if you add more hair into the already transplanted area that this hair can be laterally oriented.
