Well, im 25 years old, and ever since i have been about 18 i have noticed that i have sort of widows peak type hair line. I never thought much of it. It stayed pretty consistent.

Latlay it has continued to recess. I would say im at a norwood 3 these days. And it didnt happen over night. Its been really slow. But no one can tell due to the way i keep my hair (long), and people are suprised when i show them my hair line.

So since ive noticed this chnage, and im not at all ready to lose any more hair, im wondering if propecia would be a good tool to fix this problem. Does it work well with my sort of hair loss? Or are there other options?

I dont want a hair transplant or do surgery really at all....

Hi Ryan and welcome to the forums. Its always so nice to hear an almost "relief" in someone's "voice" when they find this site. It is a great place with some of the best men walking around these days.

At 25 you may be in good shape if you have just temple recession versus the diffuse thinning type hairloss. My pattern at your age was as you spoke of: temple recession and a widows peak. Mine took over 15 years to thin out enough to be bothersome and my widows peak is right where it was when I was 18.

Propecia is a good idea to at least stop or greatly slow further loss. It may not regrow that temple hair but who knows. You're young so it may make some of those frontal wispy hairs at the hairline thicken up a bit. Which will look better at least.

Propecia (Finasteride) and/or Rogaine (Minoxidil) are really the only things proven to halt or slow loss. Yes, they may help you keep what you have for a longer period of time and may help you regrow some. The catch is this...............if you start to use either and they do help you in any way, any of the hairs you've kept or regrown because of either will quickly disappear if you stop their use. It's really a lifelong commitment for either so be sure you're ready to start.

Welcome to the forums. I should mention also that finasteride isn't known to much of anything for the hairline and either is minoxodil. HOWEVER, I have seen a few people post pictures where they have actually regrown hair in the hairline using these products...so it really depends. It's known more for the crown and midsection, but it's worth giving it a try. Keep in mind, however, once started it's a lifetime commitment or you'll lose what you regrew or even kept while on the medication.

That being said...I think it's a good idea that you are NOT considering surgery at this point. You can always change your mind further down the road...but I think surgery should NEVER be where someone turns to first. So kudos to you.

So, propecia doenst really work for my type of hair loss?? thats what i was thinking. I was reading on the website that it doesnt work for hair-loss around the temple region. I wasnt reall sure what "temple region" was.

But this helps.

I read somewhere there is a cheaper version out there, but you just have to cut it into fourths? what is that drug called?

The Propecia will most likely stop the hairloss and possibly regrow a little .. The main issue is stopping or stabilizing your loss

You are most likely referring to Proscar or the generic version of Proscar which is what I use. Proscar contains 5mg of finasteride as opposed to just 1mg. So, split the pill into quarters and take 1/4 pill daily. It will save you money in the longrun.

Regarding whether it will work for you...I don't think there's harm in trying. I'm only stating that it's known more for stopping hairloss in the crown and doesn't do too much in the temple region or hairline...BUT, I tend to dispute that because a few have claimed it's worked for them in those areas...so as I said...you may want to consider trying it. But remember...if it IS working for you and you stop taking the medication, anything you've maintained or regrown will disappear.
