I think my original post was to long. Anybody here have shock loss or lose a lot of hair during transplant surgery because this happened to me. My hair thinned out tremendously behind the left ear, and at end point of donor scar on side of head and where the doctor placed single hair grafts on previous scar on back of head. This area has a gap now that was not there before? Anybody here have similar experiences because its been 6 months and still looks thin. I always though hair on back of head is permanent?

I'm 3 months out and have had a tremendous amount of shock loss. The majority of the loss occured on the hairline, top and crown. However, I did have some shock loss above my left ear around the donor strip. The shock loss in the donor area wasn't as drastic as the shock loss in the recipient area.

As I understand it, the shock loss hairs should come back unless they were already weakened to the point where they were going to fall out and not return anyway. In that case, the hairs would be very thin and probably have very little pigment or color.

Since your Dr. placed hairs in your donor area to cover scars, you may have had normal shock loss in this area. All I can say is, it's supposed to come back. Hopefully it does for both of us. Best of luck.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah this is the first time I have had shock loss and it was quite major on the self esteem. I just never heard of anyone getting shock loss during the actual day of surgery. I guess when it comes to any surgery, anything is possible. Best of luck to you also.
