I was curious as to the time frame after your initial consultation, until you had the HT done.

I was also curious about the actual shaving of the head. My hair is longer (for me) right now, will they shave the actual section of the head that is recieving the HT? In other words, can they insert the hairs among the existing?

I have no quams about cutting/shaving my hair I'm simply just wondering.

Last question, which should be at the top of the list...I'm in Illinois and I don't plan on traveling as its not going to be in my budget. I have looked for coalition Doctors in Illinois and only came across one, Dr. Konior. Has anybody here had any experience with this particular Dr.?

TIA!

Burt,

Many docs will work with you if you are on a tight budget, especially if you are traveling or willing to take a short notice/cancellation appointment.

I am originally from the South Suburbs, recently moved to NW Indiana and there is ONLY Dr. Konier in the Chicagoland region, PERIOD.

Do NOT be deceived by any of the docs you are looking at in this region, because they simply have not embraced the level of care we have come to expect.

I recommend Dr. Konier to those unwilling to travel, but to be honest it is a 7hr drive to Minneapolis to see Dr. Shapiro, I think I spent 3-400 dollars in travel expenses and hotel stay, which was worked into my total cost.

Going to Dr. Konier is great, but do not feel that you cannot travel, when I am from the same region and dealt with this same issue over 3 years ago.

I just want you to explore more than one option before you make a decision.

If you would like, PM me... I would be happy to discuss this with you over the phone.

Take Care,
J

Burt,

I went to Vancouver from RI. H&W covered part of the airfare & the hotel for 2 nights, so it basically cost me about $400 for the trip plus some food [though the food was the last thing on my mind]. You shouldn't let the $$ be the deciding factor on where you go. The travel $$ is cheap money considering what is at stake.

I would agree with the comment that the travel money shouldn't rule the process of choosing a surgeon. Don't let a three-digit travel cost factor into what is probably a five-digit surgery.

Hi Burt,

Time frame................for HT #1, I consulted in person, set up HT 2 months later. For HT #2, I consulted with Mike Ferko (Dr. Wong) via emailed pics then met with Dr. Wong prior to the surgery, again, around 2 months after consult.

If you're having dense packed grafts, you'll want them to clip the recipient site to avoid follicle transsection of native hair and to better match your original hair growth pattern. Search for threads on this..........there's tons. Yes, they can insert hairs among existing hair.

Dr. Konior's work is solid, though I think he's slightly more pricey that some of the other Coalition Docs. I'm like B spot and live in Illinois and would have preferred going there, but ended up flying to H&W in Vancouver for my HT.............it was a great experience and they credited me in grafts for the airfare and covered the hotel so it really cost me no more to do this. As a matter of fact, I'm going back for HT #3 in a couple of months again to Dr. Wong in Vancouver.

PM me and we can exchange phone numbers if you want to talk................since I also live in Illinois maybe we're close enough to meet or something.
