How long does it take the grafts to stay permanently in place? I only ask because i had a HT done on tuesday and every time i lightly wash my hair i am afraid that the transplanted hair will come out. i lighly dunked my head under water to clean off shampoo and i was looking to see if any hairs fell out (they dint). This must sound crazy, but after paying a lot of money you definitely want the optimal effect. so after 48 hours are they really locked in or is it possible that they will fal out... can they fall out LOL.... I'm just really new to all of this, sorry

this is not a dumb question at all ndawg27.

48 hours after the transplantation the (hair) grafts aren't settled yet so be careful.
After 5-7 days the grafts should be settled. And shedding of the transplanted hairs will start soon. So don't worry if transplanted hairs start to shed within a week, as long as there is no bleeding (grafts coming out), this is normal.

ndawg,

No question is a dumb question - it's always better to ask Smile

10 days your grafts will be firmly secured in your scalp. In the meantime, be sure to contact your physician to get detailed postoperative instructions. They should have gone through all this with you so you know what to expect.

Postoperative instructions are different for many physicians, so it is best to get them from him/her.

To see the postoperative instructions I followed for daily washing and careful handling of the grafts for the first 10 days, click here.

After 10 days however, the grafts are firmly secured. Between 2-4 weeks, the grafts will shed and you will look like you never had surgery. New growth will start to occur between 3-5 months. Hair will start to grow as thin, fine, colorless hairs and slowly thicken and mature over time. They will not be visible when they first start to grow, but you will be able to feel them with your fingertips. They will also grow at different rates. Full maturation is typically around the 1 year mark.

I hope this help give you an overview of what to expect.

Falc

After paying all that money your doc should have gone over this with you step by step! Although when they do it is tough to listen after sitting in a chair for 8 hours having your head treated like a pin cushion. My doc told me the grafts were fully secure after 8 days, but defintely follow falc's advice and be careful for the full 2 weeks....
