New to the forums here but have done some reading...

First off I would like to give some back round info, Im 27 yrs of age and would say im around a level three. I began thinning around 20 or so and still have alot of hair but would like to nip the problem in the butt before it worsens.

Ive been in contact with a few doctors in the southern calif nd one of which based off these pictures I sent would need about 1200-1500 grafts to return my hairline at 3.50 a graft. He also said that would need minimum of 1500 grafts is needed for my crown area.

Im curious if you all would say this would be a fair assesment of needed grafts for my case? Fromwhat ive been reading this would be on the lower end of costs. The doctors name was Mike Meshkin and hes the only one ive spoek to so far but I plan on doing alot more research before I find one suitable for my needs. Any thoughts would be greatly appriciated.

Thanks

-J

st,

Firts, I would get on med--most importantly finasteride to stabalize and maintain your hair; it is hard to assess your hair loss from the pics; I will say that 1200-1500 is not a lot of graphs and I do not think it is worth going throught surgery for; I would shoot for 2000-2500 grafts if your are going to go throught the journey of a HT; it appears you have a lot of hair--maybe wait and see how the meds work; I would keep researching, though; you've come to the right place.

my hair kinda looks like yours. mine is thinner in the hairline and thicker in the crown than yours. im getting 1300-1500 grafts on May 21st. I think you would be right in the same range. check out some of the coalition doctors. They consistently produce great results. I know there are a few from California. Dr. Keane in Arizona could be one you may want to check out. Also do get a script for finasteride.

unless you want to have your hairline lowered quite a bit, there really isnt to much room for over 2,000 grafts. Your risks of shockloss to native hair would dramatically increase with that many or more. I've seen people, with your minimal amount of hair loss, have great results with 1,000-1,500 grafts.

St101,

Welcome to our forum.

Though you may be a candidate for hair transplant surgery at 27 years old, keep in mind that surgery does nothing to "nip it in the bud" in terms of hair loss.

In my opinion and as dhuge said, consider getting on Propecia to help slow down or stop future hair loss first. You may even regrow some hair nonsurgically and not end up wanting surgery. Combing it with Rogaine increases your chance of successful hair regrowth.

Hair transplant surgery only moves hair from one place to the other and does nothing to stop the progressive nature of hair loss.

I hope this helps get you started in your research.

Best wishes,

Falc
