See I'm not going bald...I've been bald since before I was a year old.
As the story goes I was held by my dad over the room vaporizer and crying like a nut. By the time they figured it all out I was burned at the very center of my scalp and needed medical treatment. I never grew any hair there and suffered unbelievable amounts of human cruelty from my peers until my hair grew long and I discovered braids and ponytails. My mother tried some kind of experimental hair treatment that involved a needle in the scalp (for me, not her!) that resulted in ONE HAIR. After it kept annoying me so I yanked the sucker out. I only reminded me of my failure to have any and it never grew back so it's a sure bet if it fell out I woulda lost it anyway. Recently, though, I've come to the realization that hair loss for females in my family is a certainty as you reach your 40's and that means ponytails might not be an option for covering my DEEP-DARK SECRET(only my immediate family knows, and now, all of you)much longer. I've been ashamed of this thing all my life. I want to be able to let my hair down when I go outside. I want options! My question is...am I a candidate considering I'm a "burn" victim? Unis |

Curiousunis,
Welcome to our forum community. It's nice to have you here. It sounds like you've really been through hard times. Kids are brutal, and anyone that is "different" from the norm is typically a target of jokes. Nevermind the REAL feelings that the victim of the abuse has. If the abusers had to think that someone might really be crying and dying on the inside due to their attacks, they might have to confront how terribly awful they really are. Only a qualified physician will be able to determine whether or not you are a hair transplant candidate, but the good news is, hair transplant surgery has been performed on burn victims in the past with great success. The key is consulting with an elite surgeon with a great history of success and working out a long term plan that might help improve your overall situation. Don't expect miracles, develop realistic expectations, and explore all your options. Since you are in NJ, I'd consider consulting with: Dr. Feller Dr. Epstein Dr. True Dr. Dorin Dr. Rose Dr. Bernstein You can find links to their profiles including contact information by clicking here. You might also find this article helpful: Madeeha (below) is a 9 year old who underwent years of ridicule because she had a scarred scalp- the result of a burn as a baby. She has traveled from Oklahoma to undergo two pro bono reconstructive hair transplant surgeries with Dr. Jeffrey Epstein – a member of our coalition of hair restoration physicians. Pictures show her before and how she looked one year after her first procedure. Her story, covered by FOX’s Geraldo Show, can be viewed on the website www.foundhair.com. You can view the video by clicking here. Her second procedure was performed sometime before August in 2007.
