I was just wondering what's the shortest length you can have your hair and have the donor scar not detectable (strip excision)?

Cheers,

danger

Sorry Danger, I don't have the answer ... but I, too, would like to know what the answer is.

I doubt I'd ever want to shave my entire head, but since I'm an athletic guy, I'd like to keep my hair short. I know we should keep it a little long right after the HT to keep everything hidden, but once everything grows in (on top) and heals (in back) - how short CAN we go without being noticable?

If the donor area is removed properly and closed under minimal tension, a very fine scar should be the result. In my experience after all healing has occured, the hair in the donor area usually can be cut as short as using a number 2 clipper. Hair characteristics including hair color, coarse vs fine, and wavy vs straight also play an important role in hiding donor scars.

I scarred in 2 areas, up to a quarter inch thick.
I had a small session of 800 g rafts. Will a scar
reduction work ? Why did I stretch so much in the first place ?

Dr. Charles,

Can you get a scar reduction if your scalp is tight ? I mean it stretched in the first-place, so wouldn't it stretch again. Do grafts stay in a scar? My scar stretched in 3 places, 1 1/2 by 3-4 mill in 2 spots, and one other small area. What is the healing time of a scar for reduction ?

I usually had #3 or #4 clippers, which is 3/8 to 1/2 inch, and no one ever said a word. If my wife or kids would have noticed, they would have said something for sure. And I had both punch grafts and strip excision scars.

Thanks for posting this info, guys. I like to have my hair shorter on the sides and back. Looks like I can go #4 or even shorter with a high degree of confidence.
Part of all this isn't just that a small scar is hard to see regardless, but people generally aren't looking for scars in someone's hair. Unless you draw particular attention to it some how, even if the scar is slightly visible to you on inspection with a mirror, no one will notice. I've had that theory proven to me on several occasions so far. I had to cut my hair shorter in the back and I saw signs of the scar line in the mirror, but again, no one said a word. The hair wasn't super short, but I could see the scar in places in the mirror.

Hello,

You said: typically one should harvest at the occipital protuberance or higher.

I am 43 years of age. I just got 2000 FUT's. However, the scar is about 1/2 to 1 inch above the occipital protuberance (where my previous sacr of 600 gratfs 10 years was). The doctor (who is well respected in the HT field)did examine my hair before the HT. Do you think that is too high? (I believe that I am about a class 4)

Thank you
Pros.
