I've learned much through this site. In reading several blogs, I'm surprised to learn many women on Finasteride up to 5mg and Avodart gels (.5) without side effects. There are suggested best for postmenopausal, however, discussions include being on the pill and HRT as a combined treatment with these two drugs. My girlfriend was on Finasteride for 6 months and her hair grew, she is maintaining it at this time with little shedding.
