Hello. 1st post on this forum. I really love the info on this site!

I've been taking Proscar cut into quarter pieces every day now for the past 6 months with positive results until now. I have read a lot of posts about guys experiencing shedding around 2 months but what about at the 5-6 month stage? Is it truly shedding or it is not working for me? My wife keeps saying that she can see new tiny hairs coming in but my hair looks almost like it did b/f I started taking Proscar. This is frustrating b/c I have finally gotten past the common side effects (libido, etc).

Sheds aren't experienced by everyone but they can happen at various times and there's no rhyme or reason that I know of. Yes, I have heard of sheds being experienced even up until the 1 year mark..............you just have to hang in there.

A shed is merely a more than normal amount of your hair being kicked into the telogen (resting) phase of the hair cycle. So, in reality, this is actually a good thing and they will grow back. At any given time, 10% of the hair actively growning on hour heads is in the telogen phase. For some reason, Finasteride seems to have the effect of occasionally kicking a more than normal amount of hair into the resting phase thus a noticable "shed".

Telogen lasts about 6 weeks then the hair should start growing again.
